Review @saradobie - Bite Somebody Else by Sara Dobie Bauer (Bite Somebody #2)

Bite Somebody Else
Bite Somebody #2
by Sara Dobie Bauer

Goodreads blurb:  Imogene helped her newbie vampire friend Celia hook up with an adorable human, but now Celia has dropped an atomic bomb of surprise: she has a possibly blood-sucking baby on the way. Imogene is not pleased, especially when a mysterious, ancient, and annoyingly gorgeous vampire historian shows up to monitor Celia's unprecedented pregnancy.

Lord Nicholas Christopher Cuthbert III is everything Imogene hates: posh, mannerly, and totally uninterested in her. Plus, she thinks he's hiding something. So what if he smells like a fresh garden and looks like a rich boarding school kid just begging to be debauched? Imogene has self-control. Or something.

As Celia's pregnancy progresses at a freakishly fast pace, Imogene and Nicholas play an ever-escalating game of will they or won't they, until his sexy maker shows up on Admiral Key, forcing Nicholas to reveal his true intentions toward Celia's soon-to-arrive infant.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!  I have bought my own copy of this book…well the whole series because it is awesome!!

The cover is cartoonish, and it goes with the theme from book 1!  I like it a lot!

This is the 2nd book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content and violence.  I highly recommend reading the series in order because it is just outstanding humor, and you will be missing out if you don’t!  The characters are just awesome….all of them!!!

This is Imogene’s story, but all of our favorites are in this book too!  There is tons going on in the book with the baby, and the specialist and all the drama he brings with him.  Imogene and Nicholas are explosive together in so many ways.  Of course this book has just as much humor as book 1 did which makes me love it!  Sara does a fantastic job weaving her tail full of adventure, debauchery, humor, and yes treachery.  I couldn’t book the book down!

I highly recommend this book and the series as a whole to any vamp lovers who loves humor mixed in perfectly!  I hope I don’t have to wait long for the next book because I can’t wait to read it!

Review @saradobie - Bite Somebody by Sara Dobie Bauer (Bite Somebody #1)

Bite Somebody
Bite Somebody #1
by Sara Dobie Bauer

Goodreads blurb:  “Do you want to be perfect?”

That’s what Danny asked Celia the night he turned her into a vampire. Three months have passed since, and immortality didn’t transform her into the glamorous, sexy vamp she was expecting, but left her awkward, lonely, and working at a Florida gas station. On top of that, she’s a giant screw-up of an immortal, because the only blood she consumes is from illegally obtained hospital blood bags.

What she needs to do—according to her moody vampire friend Imogene—is just … bite somebody. But Celia wants her first bite to be special, and she has yet to meet Mr. Right Bite. Then, Ian moves in next door. His scent creeps through her kitchen wall and makes her nose tingle, but insecure Celia can’t bring herself to meet the guy face-to-face.

When she finally gets a look at Ian’s cyclist physique, curly black hair, and sun-kissed skin, other parts of Celia tingle, as well. Could he be the first bite she’s been waiting for to complete her vampire transformation? His kisses certainly have a way of making her fangs throb.

Just when Celia starts to believe Ian may be the fairy tale ending she always wanted, her jerk of a creator returns to town, which spells nothing but trouble for everyone involved.

“Witty banter and hot sexy-times make BITE SOMEBODY sparkle in all the right ways.”
—Beth Cato, author of The Clockwork Dagger series

“BITE SOMEBODY is the Pretty in Pink of vampire stories; fun, self-consciously retro, and not afraid to be goofy. Sara Dobie Bauer knows how to keep a reader smiling.”
—Christopher Buehlman, author of Those Across the River

The cover is cartoonish, but I really like it!

This is the first book in the series, and my first time reading Sara’s work!  This book is for adults only due to the murder, mayhem, and steamy content.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting to love this book like I do!  It was perfect with its “There’s Something About Mary” humor vampire style where everything that can go wrong does but making you laugh along the way.  This is how Celia and Ian’s relationship is.  I love all the 80s and 90s movie references too!  There is definitely some mystery with the deaths, but I don’t want to give anything away.  It was an awesome ending, but also left you an ending that makes you want to read the next book even more!

Sara does a fantastic job pulling you into Celia’s life and her story!  I loved every page and couldn’t put it down!

I highly recommend this book to vampire fans who want a humorous story about an awkward new vampire!  Off to read book 2!!!  I can’t wait!

Review @LdyDisney - New Moon by Lisa Kessler (Moon #8)

New Moon
Moon #8
by Lisa Kessler

Goodreads blurb:  Sometimes Fate plays dirty...

Jaguar shifter Sebastian Severino is an enigma. He lives alone, works alone, and will die alone. But the night he’s attacked by a female werewolf, nothing will ever be the same. And when his young niece is kidnapped, Sebastian, the deadliest assassin Nero has ever produced, will be forced to choose a side...

Isabelle Wood has never taken the easy path. As a bounty hunter and now a bitten werewolf without a mate, she’s searching for answers to her father’s disappearance while helping to lead an Alphaless Pack. The night she gets the opportunity to take out their enemy, with her blade at his throat, her wolf discovers her mate in the last person she can be with.

About the Author:  Wow! Goodreads just asked me for my city of birth and date of death... What if I could answer that? Would I live life differently if I knew for sure how much longer I had left?

Interesting thought.

That's generally how my writer brain works. I've been dreaming up stories since I was in elementary school. My first book was titled "The Wonders of Unicorn Creek" and my publisher was Dehesa elementary school.

Since then, I've published numerous short stories in anthologies and magazines. My story, "Immortal Beloved" was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award and was recently re-released in the "Dead Souls" anthology, along with a follow-up never-before-published story, "Subito Piano".

My debut novel, Night Walker, was released in 2012 and won a San Diego Book Award for Best Published Fantasy-SciFi-Horror. Night Walker also won the Romance Through the Ages in the Best Paranormal and Best First Book categories.

Since then, Night Thief and Night Demon have been released. The final book, Night Child will be released in March of 2014.

In the meantime,I have a new series beginning in July 2013 with Moonlight, Book 1 in the Moon Series.

I also post news and short stories on my Blog, so feel free to stop by for a read. http://Lisa-Kessler.com

The cover is good, but it would be better with his beast as well!

This is the 8th book in the series, but it is the first one I’m reading.  I’m not sure what is wrong with me, but I haven’t read any of Lisa’s books before now.  The sad part is I own this whole series.  I do plan to fix this problem in the future.  This is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content.

Isabelle is pretty amazing especially that she can see past another’s shady past and make her own decision on his current actions and trust him.  Sebastian seems to have a very twisted past thanks to his daddy.  I couldn’t put this book down.  There is tons of action, back story, and a demented daddy.  I loved all of the connections that this book brings to light.

I highly recommend to any shifter fan who loves a good complex storyline with plenty of action!  I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Review @DanicaWinters - Once a Gypsy by Danica Winters (Irish Traveller #1)

Once a Gypsy
Irish Traveller #1
by Danica Winters
Blurb:  Thrilling and romantic, Once a Gypsy starts a brand new series from award-winning author Danica Winters.

“A haunting and fresh voice in paranormal romance. Be prepared for Danica Winters to ensnare you in her dark and seductive world.”―Cecy Robson, author of the Weird Girls series and 2016 Double-Nominated RITA® Finalist

Even for a clairvoyant, the future is never a sure thing.

Helena has always struggled to fit in with her Irish Traveller family. It’s not just her opposition to getting married or her determination to attend university; Helena also has one talent that sets her apart from the rest of her clan―the gift of the Forshaw, the ability to see the future.

Graham is the groundskeeper at a manor in Adare, Ireland. Though the estate appears idyllic, it holds dark secrets, and despite his own supernatural gifts, Graham can’t solve Adare Manor’s problems by himself. Desperate for help, Graham seeks out a last resort: Helena, whose skills are far greater than even she knows.

When he promises to teach her to control her powers, Helena resists, afraid both of the damage her abilities might do and her increasing attraction to the handsome groundskeeper. Her entire way of life is at risk: Any involvement, especially romantic, with non-Travellers like Graham is forbidden. But Helena’s future is anything but certain, and fate has other plans for her family, her powers, and her relationship with Graham.

About the Author:  Danica Winters is a bestselling author who is known for writing award-winning books that grip readers with their ability to drive emotion through suspense and often a touch of magic. When she’s not working, she can be found in the wilds of Montana testing her patience while she tries to understand the allure of various crafts (quilting, pottery, and painting are not her thing).  She always believes the cup is neither half full nor half empty, but it better be filled with wine.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

This is the first book in the series.

This is an interesting read because I’ve never read a book about gypsies and Forshaw before.  This book took quite a while to develop, and as it sometimes happens, it was a little slow at times to build the world and characters.  I do not think this could be avoided.  It didn’t have as much action as I like, but I enjoyed reading it.  Helena is an interesting woman stuck between the world she knows and what she wants.  She doesn’t want to be a possession, and she thinks she is worth more.  I love her fighting spirit and caring heart.  Graham is like Helena, and they connect.  There is foresight, magic, murder, spirit, and more.  I think this series will get better and better.

Anyone who enjoys Irish folklore, spirits, and magic will enjoy reading this book!  I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

Review @kalayna - Twice Dead by Kalayna Price (Haven #2)

Twice Dead
Haven #2
by Kalayna Price

Goodreads blurb:  Newly undead shifter-turned-vampire Kita Nekai is coming to grips with the reality that her cat has not awakened since her change. What she needs is a little time to adjust to her new liquid diet and the increasingly complex attraction to her sire, Nathanial. What she gets is a headless harlequin.

With the body count rising, Kita is dragged into a dangerous game of vampire politics. Her involvement draws the attention of an ancient vampire known as the Collector who has a penchant for acquiring the unusual—like a pureblood shifter-turned vampire. Kita still has unfinished business of her own and finds herself deeper in magical debt. It's a bad time to be a kitten who can't slip her skin...

About the Author:  USA Today Bestselling author Kalayna Price writes the Alex Craft Novels, a new dark urban fantasy series from Roc, and the Novels of Haven from Bell Bridge Books. Her works have been translated into several languages and are available (or have been contracted for release) in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Poland, Russia, and Germany. Kalayna draws her ideas from the world around her, her studies into ancient mythologies, and her obsession with classic folklore. Her stories contain not only the mystical elements of fantasy, but also a dash of romance, a bit of gritty horror, some humor, and a large serving of mystery. Kalayna is a member of SFWA and RWA, and an avid hula-hoop dancer who has been known light her hoop on fire.

This is the 2nd book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the scenes of violence and sexual imagery.  I highly recommend reading the books in order, so you have a better understanding of the characters and what’s going on.

This series is definitely getting better!  Kita is an amazing lead with more strength than I would have considering her penchant for getting into loads of trouble without much effort.  It is like she is a magnet for it!  Though I really want to slap her and Nathanial, I keep expecting them to realize they have feelings for each other, but they keep screwing it up.  There is a time or two that I wanted to slap Nathanial, but you will have to read it to figure out where and why.  Of course there is tons of action, mystery, intrigue, and still quite a bit unknown about this world.  I can’t wait to learn more about the trouble Kita will get herself into and what she is capable of!

I recommend this book to any paranormal fan who like mystery and intrigue of an unknown world with a hybrid that we have no idea what she is capable of!!  You will find shifters, vampires, hybrid, skinwalkers, mages, necromancers, murder, death, treachery, magic, and more!!!

Review @ZoeChantebooks - The Snow Leopard's Heart by Zoe Chant (Glacier Snow Leopards #4)

The Snow Leopard's Heart
Glacier Snow Leopards #4
by Zoe Chant

Goodreads blurb:  A curvy waitress who’s hiding a secret + a snow leopard shifter who just wants to be left alone + a sudden, undeniable passion = one exhilarating romance!

Curvy Nina Williams has given up on finding a family. Ever since she was kicked out of her parents’ house for being a shifter, she’s been searching for a pack that will accept her—with no success. Finally, she heads to the middle of nowhere to live out her life alone. She’s learned the hard way that she can’t trust anyone, so she’s just going to have to rely on herself.

Snow leopard shifter Joel Miller has everything he’s ever wanted in his life: his dream job of being a park ranger, and a cabin deep in the mountains to fix up and call home. He’s never wanted to let anyone get too close, not even his family, so his lonely cabin is perfect. But one day he scents a strange leopard nearby. And then the new waitress in town catches his eye.

Nina is shocked to find another snow leopard in her lonely getaway—and even more shocked to realize that Joel is her mate! Can Nina learn to put her trust in others, and accept that she’s found her pack? And can Joel open his heart to Nina after keeping it closed off for so long?

The Snow Leopard’s Heart is a sizzling hot, standalone BBW, BWWM interracial shifter romance. No cliffhangers!

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, and no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!  I have bought this book because I loved it, and I own most of Zoe’s books!

The cover is beautiful!  My favorite covers always have both man and beast, and they are both breathtaking.

This is the 4th book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content.  While not required, I recommend reading all the books in order because you definitely understand the characters a whole lot more, and it is a much richer experience.  I do love Zoe Chant’s style of shifter HEAs.  They always make me smile and happy to read!

This is Joel’s story who is Zach’s brother.  He has a lot of emotional baggage from growing up which you’ve seen in previous books.  Nina is new to the scene, and she has more baggage than Joel has with her rough life.  My heart was breaking for both of them.  They are a perfect match as far as mates go because they are both very leery of everyone.  Joel definitely makes some bone headed mistakes, but it all works out in the end.

I highly recommend this book to all the big cat shifter fans especially if you love mate bonds and HEA stories!!

Once Bitten
Haven #1
by Kalayna Price

Goodreads blurb:  Kita Nekai, on the run and the smallest of her shifter clan—a calico cat among lions and tigers—is being hunted. She was expected to accept her role as her father’s successor whether or not her cat was up to the task of leading the clan. She disagreed. Now she’s less than a step ahead of the hunters, bone-tired, cold, and living hand-to-mouth in the city of Haven. And that’s the high point of her day. She’s also drugged, "accidently" turned into a vampire, and sentenced to death for recklessly creating a rogue shifter who tortures its human prey. She’s got seventy-two hours to find the rogue, evade a city full of hunters, prove she’s not responsible for the rogue, and keep the vampire council from killing her. All while sorting out an apprentice mage, a married ex-boyfriend shifter-hunter, and the vampire who made her.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is very intriguing especially with the “Meow. Purr. Die. Repeat.” which is what grabbed my attention.

This is the first book in the series, and it is the first time I’ve read this author.  This is definitely an adult only book due to the violence.

Kalayna packs the details into her book which is awesome for making the story come alive, but it is also a bit overwhelming because it was information overload for me.  I was also a bit lost in the beginning because I didn’t know this world she is creating.  I was wondering if there are other books set in this world because I didn’t know what Firth was or the rules in this shifter world.

I really like Kita because she is a fighter, but she is also scared.  She left her world because she couldn’t be with who she loved.  She is on a crazy adventure with Hunters looking for her, Vampires that she is not sure what to make of, an Old friend, Rogues, Mages, magic, murder, and mayhem galore.  She tries to make her way in the world as it keeps changing around her.

I think this series will keep getting better especially as I learn more about the world and get more in sync with Kita and her world.  I think if you like complex paranormal worlds with tons going on that you will enjoy this story because I know I did.  I can’t wait to read the next book and see how much better it gets!

Review @WendySparrow - Secrets of Skin and Stone by Wendy Sparrow writing as Wendy Laine

Secrets of Skin and Stone
by Wendy Sparrow
writing as
Wendy Laine

Goodreads blurb:  Something is wrong in Hidden Creek. The sleepy Alabama town is more haunted than any place fiend hunter Grisham Caso has ever seen. Unearthed graves, curse bags, and spilled blood all point to an evil that could destroy his gargoyle birthright. The town isn’t safe for anyone, and everyone says fiery Piper Devon knows why.

Piper wants to leave Hidden Creek behind. She’s had enough of secrets—they hide in the shadows of her room and tell her terrible things are coming. Too-charming city boy Grisham might be her only chance to save herself.

To survive, Piper and Grisham have to shed their secrets and depend only on each other. But what lurks in Hidden Creek still might take everything away from them, including each other.

About the Author:  At home in the Pacific Northwest, Wendy Sparrow writes for both an adult and young adult crowd in many genres but always with a happily ever after. She has two wonderfully quirky kids, a supportive husband, and a perpetually messy house because she hates cleaning. She’s an advocate both online and in her community for autistic children in addition to actively trying to raise awareness about obsessive compulsive disorder. Most days she spends on Twitter procrastinating doing the dishes.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is what intrigued me to check out the book!

I’m not sure if this will be a series, but right now it is just a standalone book!  It is Young Adult, but it does have some sensitive topics like OCD and cutting.  There is some kissing and hand holding, but there is murder and attempted murder and more.  I’d say that it is okay for high school students who are okay with all of the above, but I don’t know that I’d go younger than that.

Gris and Piper are a matched set of many secrets.  They both think they are monsters when really neither are.  I love reading about Gargoyles who are guardians and protectors.  There is tons of drama in this sleepy little town.  You don’t know who is at the heart of what is going on, but I did have suspicions as I read.  I really enjoyed this book!

I have enjoyed each of the books I’ve read by Wendy though I stick to the paranormal ones which is my favorite kind of books.  Wendy does a fantastic job bringing the story to life and making it feel real.  I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

I recommend this book to fans of gargoyles and perfectly good teens that people judge unfairly!!

Review @ovalleba - A Dragon's Treasure by Beverly Ovalle

Coming June 16th!!!!
Only 99 cents to pre-order!!

A Dragon’s Treasure
by Beverly Ovalle

Goodreads blurb:  Kai has been hunting for his mate for a very long time. Drawn to a singular place on earth, filled with treasures, he still seeks the greatest treasure of them all. His mate. Fleeing danger, Connie runs into the arms of destiny, but she has plans already, and a Dragon mate is not on the agenda. Kai has waited centuries for Connie, and he will claim his mate. Patience may not be a Dragon's virtue, but he always gets his treasure. Sparks fly in this humorous erotic tale of mating and mayhem.

About the Author:  Beverly Ovalle dabbled with writing on and off for years when her best friend finally dared her to submit a story to a writing contest. Beverly decided she had nothing to lose and since she'd always wanted to be an author sent it in and agonized for months waiting to hear back. Contract in hand she has never looked back.

Beverly has been obsessed with dragons and romance since she was a young girl, collecting dragon books and reading everything she could find on them even down to the care of real life dragons. She's always been slightly panicked that the world as we know it will end, so has prepped for it, haunting survivalist pages and prepper projects she felt she needed in the event SHTF.

An avid fan of all romance, Beverly's goal is to share her love of the written word and write the hot and erotic romances that she enjoys. She writes what she loves to read and it was only a matter of time before her obsessions crept into her writing for her to share. She hopes you enjoy her tales as much as she loves writing them.

A Navy Veteran, Beverly has traveled around the world and the United States enabling her to bring her settings to life, meeting and marrying her husband of twenty five years along the way for her own romance. Reading romances since the fourth grade she's followed as the genre changed and spread into the vast cornucopia of romance offered today.

This is my first time reading Beverly’s work, and I think this is a standalone.  I hope it becomes a series maybe for that town or something because I want to read Ellen’s story!  This is for adults only due to the steamy content.

I really love Connie’s sassiness especially with everything she has witnessed and that she still wants to continue.  She has strength and courage, and she tries to fight what is happening between her and Kai.  I like Kai because he is protective, and he also jumps in to help.  There are shifters, mates, and danger.  This story made me happy to just read it.  I couldn’t put it down.  I can’t describe why one book just clicks because I think so many factors play into including your own mood and what’s happening around you when you read it.

Beverly creates a great world that I hope I see more of in the future because I want to read Ellen’s story and more about UW and those shifters too!

I highly recommend this book to all the dragon and wolf shifter fans out there because you will definitely enjoy reading this book!

This is the 2nd book in this series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content.  I think you would enjoy this series much more if you read the other series that are all part of this world to gain more character perspective, but you can definitely read this without having read them all!

I was definitely pulled into this story, and I didn’t want to put it down.  Unfortunately, I had to when I drove back home from Texas.  Holley does a fantastic job with her writing style and the attitudes her characters have are awesome!

Tamatsu and Noelle both have histories with and without each other and a lot of it with their long lives.  There is quite a bit of drama between them to start, but it was filled with details of the past.  There wasn’t major action, but this book had plenty going on that I didn’t miss it.  I really liked both characters flaws and all.

I highly recommend reading this book to any paranormal fan especially if you already love this world from Desert Guards and Sons of Gulielmus because shifters, demons, angels, goddesses, fae, magic, and more!
