3/31 - Know Me Better

“KNOW ME BETTER”

Each week I will pick 5 questions to answers.
I invite you to share your answers to these questions as well. You can share them as a comment on this post or share them on your own blog and link up to this post.
This post goes up sometime during the weekend. I “TRY” to get it up by Saturday morning but life happens all to often so there are no guarantees!
 This Week’s Questions
What story does your family always tell about you?
What kind of music do you like?
Would you rather have money or fame?
Do you celebrate Easter? If so what is one of your traditions?
Best April Fools Day Joke you have done or someone has done to you?
What story does your family always tell about you?
My mom always tells the story of me doing things I was told not to and then punishing myself by slapping myself saying NO NO NO.
Also I tested my pain tolerances by seeing how hard I could ram my head into the wall.
What kind of music do you like?
I love most types of music.  It depends on my mood when I listen.  I love all types of rock (especially in the car where I can blast it and sing along :) ) I listen to music like Amethystium when I am trying to think too and don't want to be distracted like homework when I was in school or now when I grade papers.  My students whine because this is what I pick during school hours because they like to fight over country or rock.
Would you rather have money or fame?
Money, so I can help my family out and kids without family.
Do you celebrate Easter? If so what is one of your traditions?
Church and family, when my son was younger, I did all sorts of cute Easter things like hunts and leaving him letters from the Bunny.
Best April Fools Day Joke you have done or someone has done to you?
Nothing stands out in my mind, but my dad did have to contact to on April Fool's to tell me the neighbor demolished by car the day after we got it back from the repair shop for the deer I hit at 70 mph on the interstate.  I didn't believe him and it was true.
This is the first year it fall's on a school day, so pray for me :)  I'll let you know if this changes,  and I'm thinking about telling them they get a free day tomorrow and then saying April Fool's :)  lol
 Now it’s your turn!
Share an answer to one or more of these questions as a comment or post your answers on your blog and link up here! If you are posting on your blog you can grab the linky to include with your post if you would like to do so.

Review: Prophecy of the Female Warrior by K.A. Young

Prophecy of the Female Warrior
Goodreads blurb:  Anna Wilkins is prototypical housewife. She buys groceries, picks up the dry cleaning and host dinner parties.

Everything was picture perfect from the outside looking in until the life she was born to live collided with the life she was living. Her husband is murdered by a creature from another realm, a creature that is only visible to her. Through her pain, his death awakens a part of her she didn’t know existed. She is then thrust into a life of Vampires, Werewolves and Sexy Nephilim Warriors.

Drawn to her by a bond as old as their race, a Nephilim Warrior named Eli finds Anna at her darkest hour and seeks to arouse what lies dormant within her. The scorching sexual attraction she and the Warrior feel for each other is beyond anything either of them can control. Struggling to find her way; her body betrays her mind as she transitions from human to a supernatural being.

Her greatest challenge will be to determine whether she should trust what she is told that she should be or to rely on her own instincts and allow herself to shape who she will be…

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 unicorns - I loved it!!

This book was a pleasant surprise because the cover usually clues me into something, but this one not at all.  I totally was sucked into Anna’s new world.  I loved everything about this book; it sort of reminds me of Christine Feehan’s Dark (Carpathians)series.  I love that she is a strong woman who won’t put up with being told what to do and thinks for herself.  This book has intrigue, betrayal, mystery, and I could not put the story down and can’t wait to get the next book once I catch up on my reading pile :)

If you want to read this, look here ebook is $0.99:

Review - YA Fantasy - Fire by Heather James

Fire by Heather James

Goodreads blurb:  Is control over the elements a gift, or a curse?

Roxy thinks that she is in control of everything: with flames flaring at her fingertips and an equally fiery attitude, what more could she need? But then she meets Brae, a prince from a rival Realm, who turns her assumptions of superiority upside down.

Jasmine has none of Roxy’s confidence or intensity. But she does have a secret - and Brae - and she’s not going to give either up willingly

I won this book from my Goodreads group here.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 unicorns - I loved it!!
Can't wait for the next book and hope it is not long!!

Wow, this book is awesome!  I never would have known about it, if I hadn’t won it in a giveaway.  It immediately had me sucked in their Realms and intrigued about what I would find out about the secrets involved.  I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy/adventure especially with elemental magic.  This was a fantastic surprise, and I loved the journey.  The story is told from the perspective of two characters Jasmine and Roxy.  They are different, but both strong female characters.  They do what they believe is right.  I do not like giving details away because I think it should be your own fantastic journey.  You won’t be disappointed.

Review / Free Books - Blood Ties: The First by Rustin Petrae

Blood Ties: The First
Bane Pack Book 1

Goodreads blurb:  All Kendra wanted was a change.

After a bad day at work, she wants this more than anything. She goes to an old friend for comfort and decides it’s time for that change to happen. So she gets a tattoo in a last ditch effort to make people see her differently. She never would’ve bargained for what comes next. She’s seeing better than she ever has in her life. She can smell and even tell the difference between scents. She can hear a fly buzzing from fifty feet away. She’s faster. Stronger.

Oh…and now she’s extremely hot.

But is the price of these changes too high? And what about the shocking revelation of who-and what-her biological father really is?

Sometimes change can be good…and then there’s the other times.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 unicorns - I liked it!!

I liked this book, and it was a new take on werewolves.  Poor Kendra has had a tough life and now she is learning things she never knew about her friends and family.  There is intrigue and betrayal throughout the book.  I was really sucked into the story for the first 2 parts, and then it cooled off a little which I attribute to this being the first book in the series.  I will definitely continue reading this story because there are many things that we don’t know yet, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the author goes this with.  This is a new author for me, and I think he did a nice job with the story.

Right now both of his books are FREE on Smashwords:  http://www.smashwords.com/books/search?query=rustin+petrae

In the mail today!! YAY!!

I was a winner of the In the Shadow of Blackbirds trailer reveal giveaway and the book arrived today!

In the Shadow of Blackbirds
by

Goodreads blurb:  In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she’s forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love—a boy who died in battle—returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her?

Featuring haunting archival early-twentieth-century photographs, this is a tense, romantic story set in a past that is eerily like our own time.

I was also the winner of a giveaway on I Am a Reader, Not a Writer blog winning this book:

Review - The Shadow Rises by K.S. Marsden

The Shadow Rises by K.S. Marsden

Goodreads blurb:  Witches are real, and to be blunt, they’re all black-hearted, and evil. These are not wiccans, bored housewives and teens that wore too much black, playing with candles and poems; witches are a different breed that use magic with devastating effect.
Charged with stopping the witches, taking whatever measures necessary, there are witch-hunters, all reporting to the Malleus Maleficarum Council (MMC). For hundreds of years witches have been persecuted and when the powerful Shadow Witch rises again, they have their opportunity for revenge.

The best the MMC has to offer, the talented seventh-generation witch-hunting Hunter Astley has his own part to play. In his own way.

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 unicorns - I liked it!

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book.  I did not connect well with this book, and it has everything to do with me not the writer.  It is well written and a good story, but I have a problem with all witches being bad, evil, and power hungry (too much like racism or bigotry).  I guess I like an even mix of good and evil.  I think this caused the disconnect for me, and I had no problem putting the book down because of this.  The ending sort of left you hanging, and I haven’t seen anything indicating that this is a series.  I would definitely read the next book if it is a series to know what happens next because I think it has possibilities.  :)

Know Me Better - 3/24/13

"Know Me Better"

Each week I will pick 5 questions to answers.

I invite you to share your answers to these questions as well.  You can share them as a comment on this post or share them on your own blog and link up to this post.

This post goes up sometime during the weekend. I "TRY" to get it up by Saturday morning but life happens all to often so there are no guarantees!

This Week's Questions

What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you?
What is most memorable about your high school years?
Have you ever gotten up early for a "black Friday sale"?
Were you named after anyone?
Would you bungee jump, skydive or something similar?

What is the kindest thing anyone has done for you?
Always kind things happening, so I will limit this to this year.  I have a friend if she notices I'm conserving gas, then she gives me money for gas because we only get paid once a month.  She has done this a couple times this year.  I have to find creative ways to repay her because she won't let me pay her back.  I also had a secret santa give me $50 at work to help with Christmas for my son this year with a note that said they knew how hard it was being a single parent.  I still have no idea who it was.  It made me cry :)

What is most memorable about your high school years?
Ugg, high school was not a fun time for me.  Let's see, in order, I had my nose broken by a guy who sucker punched me, was date raped (I have already forgiven him, so not a point of contention), found first love, lost first love (because I wouldn't sleep with him after the rape), and graduated early to join the Air Force.

Have you ever gotten up early for a "black Friday sale"?
No, but I did go Thursday night to Walmart and that was kinda crazy.

Were you named after anyone?
Just the Greek Trojan princess who spurned Apollo's advances ;)

Would you bungee jump, skydive or something similar?
No, probably not.  I tend to be a klutz and that seems like tempting fate or Murphy's Law.

Books Galore :)

In the mail, won in giveaways:

Bewitched, Blooded and Bewildered
by Robin Bachar

Goodreads blurb:  It’s better to be a bad witch than a dead one.

Bad Witch story.

One thing stands between Catherine Duquesne and happily-ever-after with her soul mate Lex—her unwanted bond with billionaire vampire Zachary Harrison. Married life is hard enough without adding an uninvited vampire to the mix, and being tied to Zach endangers more than just her relationship. If Zach dies, she dies, and with his new seat on the necromancer council being challenged by older, more powerful masters, his life expectancy is dwindling fast.

Vampire politics is only the beginning of Cat’s problems. Hunters are stalking magicians, abducting entire families and killing anyone who resists. As the current Titania and Oberon, Cat and Lex must protect their people, but Cat’s dark past keeps the victims from seeking their help. Worse, the former Titania’s granddaughter wants to oust Cat from the job, believing her vampire ties make her unfit.

To break the bond Cat must broker deals with devils on a journey that will take her to hell and back—literally. Freedom comes at a high price, but Cat will risk anything to save her people and her marriage.

Warning: This book contains explicit language, faerie shenanigans, a field trip to hell, even more magician sex, and gratuitous violence against vampires, demons, hunters, helicopters and the kitchen sink.

Flirting Under a Full Moon
by Ashlyn Chase

Goodreads blurb:  If Brandee Hanson ever wants to go from waitress to photographer, she'll have to take some once-in-a-lifetime shots. But when she catches the gorgeous private investigator, Nick Wolfensen, on camera— transforming into a werewolf—she is thrown into a world of vampires, shapeshifters, and other paranormal misfits.

In order to keep his secret and stay clear of the supernatural council, Nick will have to convince Brandee not to release the photo. Fortunately, he was looking for an excuse to spend more time with the beautiful waitress anyway.

The Chosen Shell
by Katherine Sartori

Goodreads blurb:  The Chosen Shell opens at a time of profound change in the nation and the Catholic Church. Its young heroine, Celie O’Rourke, is caught between a desire to live a life of divine purpose and a yearning for human love and connection. Author Katherine Sartori, once a nun herself, follows Celie’s journey from vulnerable adolescent to empowered adult with sensitive and poignant prose, while offering readers a fascinating glimpse inside monastic convent life. Although Celie’s transformation is rooted in the turbulent 1960s, her story offers a stirring and ultimately uplifting message that transcends that era. DeAnna Cameron, author of Dancing at the Chance and The Belly Dancer. Celie O’Rourke, sensing a calling from God, enters a California convent during the 1960s, a turbulent era of change in the Catholic Church. Four years later, she is teaching Latino children with great success. But the cult-like practices of her monastic Order threaten her fragile self-confidence, as she grapples with sexual feelings she can no longer suppress. Celie’s charismatic Superior offers her guidance and friendship plus the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream. . .but these gifts come with a high price. Confused, she takes refuge at a retreat house where she meets an accomplished New York businessman, Tony DeStephano. Though from different worlds, the bond they feel is electric. . .but forbidden. A former nun, author Katherine Sartori has created a fictional story, inspired by her own experiences as well as those of the Sisters she met. Her novel seeks to contrast idealism with the realities of convent living.

The Wrong Way to Feed a Unicorn

Book blurb from Goodreads:  Charles wants to keep his 13-year-old daughter Lexi happy even if it means taking care of a manipulative, potty mouthed unicorn that continually insults his hospitality, intelligence and manhood. But when it comes to food they have a problem, and Charles finds himself hunting down one of the world's most expensive ingredients in a crime-ridden neighborhood known for its grisly dealings with outsiders.

Along the way he meets a long lost high school friend with a fast-food job and unusual knowledge of high-end cuisine; a voodoo wielding faith healer and his side-arm carrying bodyguard, a nearsighted stripper with a taste for knives, and her jealous boyfriend who confronts Charles for stealing his girl. Only one of them will walk away.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 unicorns - I really liked it!
Okay this book drew my attention because I love unicorns and collect them.  Even my only tattoo is of a winged unicorn (I made myself part of my collection!) which I got my first weekend restricted to base in tech school in the Air Force.  Yes, I left base when I wasn’t supposed to.  I tell you this because the unicorn in this story is not very nice.  This book had me feeling very sorry for Charles, but I still couldn’t stop laughing at his bad luck and that everyone he met has absolutely no respect for him especially his daughter’s pet unicorn.  The potty mouthed unicorn in this story reminds me of how my high school students treat each other.  They would probably love this story because they think being disrespectful is just playing and no big deal.  I read part of this to my 12 year old son, and he was laughing hysterically and told me I needed to read him the whole thing.  I think he is too young right now to read the entire thing, but I would let him at 16 or older because of some of the content.  It is definitely an adult book and not meant as a YA or children’s book.  The innuendos are very adult.  Charles’ life seems like a train wreck but you just don’t want to look away.  It was a very amusing story and worth the read for the laughs alone but it has an adventure too.  Quick read!

Friday Favorite: Adult Paranormal Series Vampire Erotic Theatre by Felicity Heaton

Enter the dark, sinful and seductive world of the four vampire owners of London's premier vampire erotic theatre, Vampirerotique, and discover how these powerful vampires will be brought to their knees by the women who claim their hearts--a mortal, a werewolf, a vampire, and an angel.

Covet is book 1 in the series

Book blurb from Goodreads:  They’ve burned for each other for two years, the forbidden attraction between them growing each night. Now resisting the sinful desires of their hearts is becoming impossible.

Javier knows better than to succumb to his hunger for Lilah. The mortal female belongs to a powerful aristocrat patron of Vampirerotique, the theatre he runs with three other vampires. A single touch is all it would take to break the sacred law of his kind, sentencing himself to death, but his passion for her has become too fierce to ignore and he will risk everything to make Lilah his.

Lilah has fought her desire for Javier since arriving at his theatre as a servant but each glance he has stolen, his eyes promising pleasure that will satisfy her longing for him, has chipped away at her defences and she can no longer deny her need and her forbidden feelings for the powerful vampire male.

When they find themselves alone in a private box during one of the erotic performances, will they surrender to their passion and live out their wildest fantasies in a night of wicked pleasure or will the threat of Lilah’s master keep them apart forever?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 stars - I loved it!
Read June 2012
Oh my gosh, this novella is yummy. The scenes are so tempting, so much so you will wish it was a full length novel. The only disappoint was when the adventure ended. I cannot hope enough that we won’t have to wait long for the next book. It makes you wish for the bond Javier and Lilah have found, curious about Snow, Antoine, and Callum and if their stories will be next. Felicity is one of my favorite authors, and I recommend this book to all who long to find that special someone. Covet is a fantastic first in a new series!

Crave is book 2 in the series

Book blurb from Goodreads:  His mind has been set on his work for the past one hundred years. Now a forbidden beauty has stolen his attention and is threatening to steal his heart too.

Callum has come to the city of romance on business, not pleasure, but when he sets eyes on a gorgeous werewolf in a nightclub, he can’t ignore the dark carnal craving she ignites in him. His work for Vampirerotique, the erotic theatre he runs with three other vampires, can wait. The only thing that matters now is satisfying his sinful hunger for a woman who most vampires would consider an enemy.

Kristina is on the run from her pack. Her alpha is intent on forcing her to bear his child and she’s not about to live through the same nightmare as her mother had. When a tall, dark and sexy vampire catches her eye, she can’t believe the ferocity of the desire he unleashes in her or the fact that she enjoys the feel of his eyes on her and his silent pursuit of her in the clubs each night.

When Kristina finally gets a taste of Callum in a forbidden kiss, will she be strong enough to resist the allure of the vampire and his offer to share his bed for a week of unbridled, wild sex, or will she surrender to her own craving for the safety and passion she finds in his embrace?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 stars - I loved it!
Read March 2012
Felicity did it again, I didn’t want it to end. This novella was about Callum, a vampire, and Kristina, a werewolf. Again it is about forbidden love, but I don’t want to give away any of the adventure. She packs the story with plenty of conflict, love, and scenes that make you want forbidden love for yourself. This is the 2nd in the series, and I highly recommend it to all. Felicity is an awesome story teller, and I can’t wait for the next one. Hoping it will be a full novel because I can’t get enough of her new series!

Seduce is book 3 in the series

Bloodlust runs in his veins, a dark master waiting for the day it will reign over him. Now a woman with a pure soul and wicked intentions has him in her sights and is determined to crack the ice around his heart, and she might save or damn him.

Antoine stands apart from the world around him, a dangerous and broken soul who must maintain rigid control at all times or risk his dark addiction finally seizing hold of him. The shadows of his past haunt him and he sees his bleak future each night when his brother wakes screaming, his blood addiction turning him savage. He cannot allow himself to feel, but when Sera walks into Vampirerotique, the erotic theatre he runs with three other vampires, to audition, she awakens dangerous desires in him—hungers that could spell the end of both of them.

Sera has wanted Antoine since the night she first saw the gorgeous aristocrat vampire. She can’t ignore the deep carnal hunger he stirs in her or the ache to know the heat of his touch. With the help of her sire, an ex-performer at Vampirerotique, she sets in motion a game of seduction, one designed to thaw the ice in Antoine’s veins and make him burn for her.

When Sera discovers the shocking truth about his past and the darkness that lurks within him, will she be strong enough to seize his heart with both hands and win him forever or will she lose him to the ghosts that still haunt him?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 stars - I loved it!
Read June 2012
Seduce is another outstanding read!!! Felicity Heaton draws you in on the first page, and I couldn’t put it down until I finished. This is Antoine’s story where Sera works to seduce him. He battles his past heartache, pain, and tragedy. It is a very yummy read; I want an Antoine of my own. This series is a must read for all of Felicity’s fans. She is an artist with words. She is one of my favorite authors. :)

Enslave is book 4 in the series

Book blurb from Goodreads:  His determination to succeed in business has left no room in his life for love. Now, a beautiful and deadly succubus has teleported into his dark, decadent world and is in danger of enslaving his heart.

Andreu’s future entails opening an erotic theatre like Vampirerotique, gaining wealth, women and power, not shackling himself to a single female, but he cannot deny the dangerously seductive succubus who stirs his anger and passion, and tempts him like no other—he will have her.

The moment their eyes meet, Varya knows she cannot have the exotic dark vampire who sets her pulse racing. His shadowed aura marks him as forbidden, but the hungers he awakens in her are too intense to resist—she must have a taste.

When an erotically-charged kiss ignites their soul-searing passion and reveals something dangerous about Andreu, will Varya leave forever or will she dare to risk all in pursuit of something she thought was beyond her reach?

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 stars - I really liked it!
Read August 2012
This story is of Javier’s brother Andreu. I really liked this story of Andreu and Varya; however I felt it should have been longer to fill us in more on the details about the fae. It felt like a secret that needs to be unraveled in my opinion. This story is not my favorite in the series, but I wouldn’t miss reading anything in this series. The steamy scenes were awesome and if you’ve read the other stories, you don’t want to skip this one. I’m still looking forward to seeing what Snow’s story brings and maybe we will get more answers on the fae too!!

Bewitch is book 5 in the series

Book blurb from Goodreads:  A vampire with a past stained with blood and a soul tainted with darkness, he is perfect in his self-control, never surrendering to his darkest desires. Now a beautiful witch in the shadowy fae underworld threatens to reawaken long denied hungers and tempts him with carnal pleasure.

Payne despises the incubus side of his mixed genes and refuses to give it free rein, but when the wickedly sexy Elissa offers him a possible way to help a friend, he finds it difficult to resist paying the price, even if it will be his undoing—one night of passion at her command.

Elissa is a witch down on her luck until Payne comes crashing into her life. The dangerously handsome male is the key to fulfilling a promise she made, but he is also forbidden, and surrendering to the wildfire passion he stirs within her means risking ruin and death.

When one incredible night of fulfilling their deepest fantasies leads to more than just a pathway to keeping a promise and saving a friend, will they be able to overcome the barriers that stand between them and forever?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 stars - I loved it!
Read January 2013
Bewitch is another fantastic addition to the Vampire Erotic Theatre series. This story mostly occurs away from the theatre and is about Payne. He is on a quest to help Andreu with his mate, who is tied to the theatre. Payne encounters a witch named Elissa who is in trouble. This story was easy to get sucked into and learn more about Payne and his past as well as Elissa’s. I don’t like to give stories away, so you have to read it to know what happens. If you have not yet read this series, I highly recommend it!!  Felicity Heaton is a mandatory addition to anyone’s library who love paranormal romance.

COMING SOON - Book 6 - Unleash - Due out in May 2013
