Serial Review - Hidden, Clan of the Werebear by Madison Johns

Hidden, Clan of the Werebear
by Madison Johns

Goodreads blurb:  Serial novella, adult content and situations, not recommended for anyone under 18.

SEPARATED...Elaina had heard warnings about the Clan of the Werebear all her life, but as a foundling with no knowledge of her past, she has no idea whether or not her protector's warnings that they are searching for her are true.

PROTECTED...The werewolf, Samson, tries to protect her from the world by hiding her away in a cabin high in the mountains, refusing even to allow her to "shift." But when, at the age of eighteen, Elaina is stricken by "the mating fever" and Samson finds her in a compromising position with his grandson, he is forced to confine her even more.

FEVERED...Restricted, hidden away, in full frenzy of the mating fever, and strictly forbidden to mate, Elaina decides it is time she joined her own kind...to find her mate. But meeting the devastatingly handsome were-bears, Cullen and Damon, is dangerous because she is drawn to the both of them ...like a bear to honey. The fever is so strong, all she can think about is being in their arms.Torn, Eliana must face one of the most difficult choices of her life: go back with them to their village and chance that they aren't part of the Clan, or turn her back on the one man who could be her perfect mate in order to remain...HIDDEN.

About the Author:  When Madison Johns began writing at the age of forty-four, she never imagined she'd make it onto the USA Today best-selling books list with her first cozy mystery, Armed and Outrageous, as an independent author. Sure, this book is an Amazon bestseller, but USA Today?

Although sleep-deprived from working third shift, she knew if she used what she had learned while caring for senior citizens to good use, it would result in something quite unique. The Agnes Barton Senior Sleuths mystery series has forever changed Madison's life, with each of the books making it onto the Amazon bestseller's list for cozy mystery and humor.

Madison is a member of Sisters In Crime. Madison is now able to do what she loves best and work from home as a full-time writer. She has two children, a black lab, and a hilarious Jackson Chameleon to keep her company while she churns out more Agnes Barton stories with a few others brewing in the pot.

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!!
***Ebook gifted to me for an honest review

The cover is cool and definitely says werebear :)  It would definitely attract shifter lovers to pick it up.

Okay, I’m really torn.  This is a novella of approximately 90 to 100 pages.  I really liked it until it just stopped.  It felt unfinished to me because there was no closure for any of the questions that rolled around my head for the entire book, and then even more questions added at the end with no answers.  This series has so much potential and I think it is going to only get better, but right now I’m just I don’t know perturbed and sort of disappointed.

The world that Madison Johns has created is cool, but still very unknown.  I like Elaina.  She is trying to solve the mystery that is her life and her species.  She is unprepared for the world and has no idea about anything.  You definitely feel just like Elaina and not knowing what will happen.  I love Madison’s writing style.  It is easy to get pulled into the story, and I can’t wait for more, but I hope I don’t have to wait long to.  I need to know what happens.  I will definitely continue the series.

This really was a hard review for me because it was going to be a 4 that’s how much I liked reading this story until it left me hanging.  I recommend to my werebear lovers out there, but be prepared because it is not enough, you will be left wanting.

Review - Bear With Me by Lynn Red (The Jamesburg Shifters #3)

Bear With Me
The Jamesburg Shifters #3
by Lynn Red

Goodreads blurb:  From USA TODAY and NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Lynn Red comes a steamy, seductive, sensuously heart-felt alpha werebear romance!

Curvy, scrappy, and slightly self-conscious, Lilah Jorgenson is a raccoon-shifting painter with a white streak in her hair and a longing to find the family she never really had.

As a kit scraping by in back alleys, Lilah had to steal to survive. The only predictable part of her life is her weekend job at the Jamesburg Jail. Oh, and her constant, grinding need to find a mate, a family and a home to call her own.

Thickly-muscled, inked-up former soldier Rex Lee spent five years away, but when family duty calls, he and his little cub come home. Love is distant memory. The only thing Rex has on his mind is keeping his family – his daughter and his father – safe... until a fight lands him in the Jamesburg lockup.

When Lilah sees the giant behind bars, the tattoos around his eyes make her yearn, and burn, hotter than she ever has in her twenty-six years of life. And when Rex catches a glimpse of Lilah’s two-toned eyes and sly grin? No matter how much he fights his instincts, sometimes a bear just can’t say no. No matter how much Lilah tells herself it’s all wrong, she knows deep down... she and Rex? It’s exactly right.

Lilah may have sworn off theft when the Jorgenson family took her in, but she’s got one thing left to steal – Rex’s heart.

THE JAMESBURG SHIFTERS is a USA TODAY best-selling series of standalone novels featuring a unique hero, heroine and satisfying HEA ending. No cliffhangers here! Books can be enjoyed in any order you like – you won’t miss a thing!

About the Author:  Lynn doesn't love anything more than being wrapped up in a hammock with her corgi on her stomach and a pile of her favorite books to read. And by "pile of books" she means "a kindle."
She loves all sorts of romance, but especially ones that feature big, strong alphas who will stop at nothing to prove themselves to the women who melt their hearts.

The cover is very sexy!  But the model is not true to Rex because of one key thing; however I’m not going to tell you what it is.  You have to read it to figure it out ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed Lilah and Rex’s story :)  Though, I wished I would have seen some of interaction with Violet and Crag because I love series when you see the characters you fall in love with again :)  Lilah is so real with her back story and her insecurities making her easy to relate to.  Rex is an awesome single dad trying to live.  They both have a past to get over, so they can move forward and be happy together.  And of course, Rex’s little cub is adorable :)  I could picture the story in my mind.  I laughed with them and cried.  Throw in a zombie and you have everything for a wonderful story and adventure.

You can definitely read this book without having read the rest of the series.  I still have to go back and read book 1.

Lynn’s writing style is easy to read and humorous :)  I will definitely keep reading this series and more from Lynn.  I recommend this story to my bear lovin’ shifter friends.  You will definitely enjoy it :)

"Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she's still got me. I want more!"
Nancy Holder, New York Times Bestselling Author, The Rules

The hunt is on!

Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycanthrope soldiers.

When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland, she thought it would be a vacation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycanthropy was not a supernatural curse but rather a genetic mutation. When they return home, her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines.

Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States, but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.

Predator gives the werewolf legend a couple of new spins by introducing the Benandanti (an actual folkloric belief that certain families of Italy and Livonia were werewolves who fought against evil), as well as a modern scientific approach to mutation and the science of transgenics.

More than a Cover Reveal - The Summer Sacrifice by Holly Hinton @HollyHinton1

summerreveal (1)

Today we are excited to share the cover process via images and the final cover for the middle grade fantasy The Summer Sacrifice by Holly Hinton.  The book is scheduled for release on June 21st, 2014.
The cover artist has provided us with the images to show the process of creating the cover.

Thumbnails-a-b-c small

These three concept images were the first pictures David created for The Summer Sacrifice. Thumbnail A evoked the atmosphere of a mysterious fantasy, B gave the impression of a teenage classic, and C was more poetic in tone. Holly settled on a mixture of A and B as the basis for David to start constructing the final cover.

Thumbnails-color-mood-d-e-f small

These drawings were 'speed-painted' by David. They are rough in nature as their purpose was to help decide the cover's general colour scheme.
Pencil-line-art-artwork small

David drew a detailed sketch of the friendship group. He used this as a guide for the final painting of the group on the cover. He kept the 'camera' low, almost on the floor, to make the characters look more heroic and the serpent bonfire bigger. He worked to get a sense of wind into the image to give it an outdoor feeling and to add dynamism, and also to break up the composition's symmetry.

06-work-in-progress-detail

David paid great attention to working out the many light sources in the painting, and particularly how they would interact with the faces and bodies of the five central characters. There is a strong backlight from the fire, a mix of bounced lights from the environment, and diffuse bluish light from the sky.

work-in-progress-global small

This version of the cover is close to the final one. The serpent and the title still required small changes, and David also did some other general polishing, including painting the moon's glow onto the vines and leaves framing the picture, and adding the stars.

hollyHolly grew up in a small, sleepy village in Suffolk. The acting bug hit her at age nine, when she was asked to play Baboushka in the school nativity. She went to Goldsmiths, University of London to study Drama, after which she completed her actor training at Arts Ed.
Writing a book was never part of the plan. But life’s full of swerves and surprises and ideas dropping into people’s heads. Holly had an idea drop into hers, and that idea became The Summer Sacrifice, and The Summer Sacrifice became the first book of the Master Game Series.

It looks like a sorcerer is to blame, but while Cassie tries to figure out who, others take matters into their own hands. With tensions running so hot, a single spark might set Eagle Rock ablaze.

About the Author:  Christine Amsden has been writing fantasy and science fiction for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and relationships, and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.

The cover has intrigue with the burning house on it, and I don’t know what it is about the moon, but I love it :)

Christine really is a fabulous writer.  I always get pulled into Cassie Scot’s world and think it would definitely be an interesting place to live.  Never a dull moment :)  It always amazes me the twists that she throws in and how action packed her story lines are.  Her writing style is just awesome.  I always love reading this series, and this book was no exception.  I will admit that there are several men I would have slapped if I were Cassie and probably repeatedly ;)  I’m so torn because I’m mad at Evan, but I really want her and Evan to have this amazing fairy tale ending that I secretly hope for.

Cassie is this amazing detective who manages to get herself into and out of so much trouble.  It seems to follow her around.  I admire how much she wants to help people and her common sense that seems to be lacking in the real world.  I love a heroine who is strong and smart that can stand on her own two feet, and this is definitely Cassie.

The story ended way to quickly, and now I have to wait again for more.  Have I mentioned before I’m not good at being patient??  Christine write fast because I want book 4….like NOW :)

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves paranormal and mystery together with lots of action and drama.

Review @Vickie_IO_Tours - Cade by V.A. Dold @VADOLD (Le Beau Brothers #1)

Cade
by V.A. Dold

Sexy billionaire wolf shifters, BBW as their mates, Vampires for friends, evil ex-husband and mob boss. Put it all together in the French Quarter and Bayou and you have CADE.

Anna James is single again, finally. In her opinion, men are self-centered and will never love her for who she is, a beautiful, plus sized woman. All except the fantasy man that she’s been meeting in her dreams for five years.

She just never expected her fantasy to be a real live alpha shifter...
Cade Le Beau isn't what he seems. He’s a billionaire wolf. A Shifter. He laments his missed chance six months ago to meet his fantasy woman in the flesh. Just as his second chance presents itself, his fantasy woman, his mate, is threatened by the local mob boss and her ex-husband. Now, he has forty eight hours to deal with this threat once and for all or chance losing her again.

Is it Anna who’s in danger, or the humans who unwittingly threaten her?

The heat is on the moment they lay eyes on each other. Neither, age, children, horrid ex-husbands, nor mob bosses will stop this love affair.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!!
***Author gifted me a copy of the ebook for an honest review

The cover is awesome and as someone who loves shifters, it totally attracts me to pick it up and read it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.  While I was reading this book, I thought to myself this is like the shifter version of the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands.  Lynsay is one of my favorite authors, and I think the Le Beau Brothers series is going to be a favorite too!  I like reading series on a lovable family where you become invested in everyone in the family and want to read their story.

I would have loved more action and excitement, but I'm a junkie and there is really plenty to the story.  There were a few scenes that I thought were rushed where reactions could have been developed more or something.  I'm not a writer, so I just give you my thoughts.  This is a new series, so part of this could be that first book awkwardness.

Anna is awesome, and I can totally relate to her and some of her thought processes.  Cade is sexy and sweet.  I'm totally jealous of what Cade and Anna have :)  The author does a great job of writing the story, so you can visualize what is going on and her style is great and makes it easy to get pulled into the story.

I think if you love shifters that you will definitely want to read this series.  I think it is only going to get better, and the only thing I don't like is having to wait for the next book.  I want it now :)

Prologue

Prologue- The Plan “Emma, we need to take matters into our own hands or they’ll never find their mates.” Isaac Le Beau set his snifter down before he crushed the glass in frustration. “We have seven virile, grown sons, who after two hundred years haven’t found their mates. If we don’t step in and give a hand to the wolf-goddess Luperca, our sons may spend their lives alone, without children to raise and without their other half to love. Dang it, I want some grandchildren, while I’m still young enough to enjoy them.” He slowly raised his head and gazed at the love of his life, Emma. She was a unique blend of Romanian gypsy heritage and a very powerful voodoo priestess. Even after two centuries her exotic sparkling dark eyes and compact killer soft curves left him breathless. Some would classify her as a big, beautiful woman. He called her ‘sex on a stick‘. He swore she controlled every beat of his heart. The warmth and agreement in those mesmerizing eyes silently prompted him to continue. “Would you do your high-priestess voodoo thing and ask the spirits to identify their mates? With some influence we could bring them together, so they can recognize them on their own. I don’t want to force a meeting. Simply provide the opportunity. How about it, will you give it a try?” Isaac asked. He knew Emma wouldn’t deny him. “Of course, I’ll perform the ritual, but I can’t give you any guarantees. All I can do is try. If we are truly blessed, Luperca will appear to me and give this endeavor her approval. I want our sons happy and I’d love to have a dozen grandchildren running around the house, too.” Isaac opened his arms wide, inviting Emma to slide onto his lap. He buried his face into her hair breathing in her unique scent. The familiar fragrance calmed him like nothing else. He was confident everything would change for his sons very soon. He could hardly wait for each of them to meet their one true mate. No wolf should go fourteen hundred years alone. Two weeks later, they enjoyed the cool breeze that came off the river, flowing through the open windows. A secret little smile lit up Emma’s entire face and her fingers tapped a tune on her cut crystal wine glass. He knew that expression well. “Out with it, Emma,” Isaac said with a grin of his own. “What is it you’re dying to tell me?” He waited patiently for her to tell him her grand news. Emma actually bounced in her seat. “I received answers from the goddess.” She clapped her hands excitedly. “Cade's mate is in New Orleans right now. Her name is Anna James. The goddess said she has had many unhappy years, but is now open to finding her one true love. Isn’t that fantastic? Two days from now she is destined to be in Jackson Square and then stop to eat lunch at Crescent City Brewhouse. She’ll be in the bar around eleven-thirty. As for the rest of the boys, the goddess said we must have patience. She’ll grant me visions in my dreams or come to me for each of them when the time is right.” A surge of excited energy rushed through him as a hundred butterflies took up residence in his stomach. This must be what it felt like to win the lottery he thought. “We’ll have to move fast. We need to think of a way to get Cade there at the right time.” “Maybe we can come up with a way to use Jackson square? Cade sits there so often it might be an option?” Emma offered. “Maybe.” He rubbed his chin, forehead crinkled in deep thought. “First we need to get him out of his home office and into the French Quarter. The bank called yesterday about a restaurant up for sale. I’ll have them schedule a meeting with Cade to review our investments and recommend this new opportunity.” He tapped his chin as the plan took shape, mumbling as he worked it out. He stood and paced across the room, prowled like the animal he was. He couldn’t think properly sitting down. As he strode back and forth, he noted she had settled into an easy chair to watch him. “That’ll get him to the city,” he thought aloud as he continued to tap his finger on his chin. “You’re right about his constant people watching, I’m sure he’ll take a walk and perhaps sit a while. A possibility.” Isaac cupped his jaw in his hand and rubbed the coarse stubble. A satisfied smile tugged at his lips. “I’ve got it! I’ll ask him to meet me for lunch at Crescent City at eleven-thirty. Richie tends the bar, he’ll know the mating signs. When Cade arrives, goddess willing, he will sense his mate. I’ll have Richie tell him I won’t be able to make it. If I’m not there for lunch he will be free to spend time with her.” Smile broadening, he folded his arms across his chest and nodded. They had a solid plan. In less than a week he could have his first daughter-in-law. Isaac settled into his leather captain’s chair. “I’ll arrange everything with Richie." He felt two hundred years younger, like the bold robust young man who had swept his mate off her feet. By the wistful expression Emma wore, he must look it, too. As he sipped his rich, sweet cognac, he imagined a baby in Emma’s lap, sleeping peacefully while a toddler played with blocks on the floor. His sigh brought her attention to him with a raised brow. She would laugh if she knew what he was dreaming. A smile continued to pull at his lips. He couldn’t help it. He was very pleased with his little romance ambush, positive it would be successful. Cade was in for a wonderful surprise in two days’ time. “Now that we have the plan, what do you think she will be like? Did the goddess give you any hints?” She laughed. “No, you silly man, the goddess doesn’t have time for things like that.” “You know he has always favored curvy women. I sure hope she isn’t skinny, he might not even look at her if she is.” A little shiver ran through him. “Remember the gal he dated who looked a lot like you? She was a plus sized beauty. Cade never said anything, but Marcus drove him crazy with that ‘Oedipus’ nickname.” He laughed as he recalled the antics of the boys. “You’re right, he does like a woman with meat on her bones. All the boys do.”

V.A.Dold is the author of the Le Beau Brothers series, New Orleans wolf shifter novels. A graduate of Saint Cloud University, she majored in marketing. Prior to becoming a full time writer, she was a publicist to the authors, owning Innovative Online Book Tours and ARC Author & Reader Con's (ARC NOLA) (ARC Phoenix). Still is. The companies mesh so well together, much like PB&J.
Her idea of absolute heaven is a day in the French Quarter filled with nothing but her computer, her coffee mug and the Brothers, of course.
A Minnesota native with her heart lost to Louisiana, she has a penchant for titillating tales featuring sexy men and strong women. When she's not writing, she's probably taking in a movie, reading or traveling.
Her earliest reading memories are from grade school. She had a major fixation with horses, and the Black Stallion was a favorite. Then junior high came along and teenage hormones kicked in. It became all about the Harlequin Romances. She has been hooked on romances ever since.
