New Release Spotlight - The Woodlands by Lauren Nicolle Taylor @LaurenNicolleT @CleanTeenPub

The Woodlands
by Lauren Nicolle Taylor

Goodreads blurb:  When being unique puts you in danger and speaking your mind can be punishable by death, you might find yourself fighting to survive. Sixteen-year-old Rosa lives in one of the eight enclosed cities of The Woodlands. Where the lone survivors of a devastating race war have settled in the Russian wilderness because it’s the only scrap of land left habitable on the planet. In these circular cities, everyone must abide by the law or face harsh punishment. Rosa's inability to conform and obey the rules brands her a leper and no one wants to be within two feet of her, until she meets Joseph. He's blonde, fair-skinned, green-eyed, and the laid-back complete opposite of Rosa. She's never met anyone quite like him, and she knows that spells danger.

But differences weren't always a bad thing. People used to think being unique was one of the most treasured of traits to have. Now, the Superiors, who ruthlessly control the concrete cities with an iron fist, are obsessed with creating a 'raceless' race. They are convinced this is the only way to avoid another war. Any anomalies must be destroyed.

The Superiors are unstoppable and can do anything they want. After all, they are considered superheroes by the general public. But not everyone sees them this way. When they continue to abuse their power by collecting young girls for use in their secret, high-tech breeding program, they have no idea that one of those girls has somehow managed to make friends even she didn't know she had. And one man will stop at nothing to save her.

~ Goodreads ~

About the Author:  Daughter of a Malaysian nuclear physicist father and an Australian doctor mother, Lauren Nicolle Taylor was expected to follow the science career path. For a while, that is exactly what she did, completing a Health Science degree with Honors in obstetrics and gynecology. However, there was always a niggling need to create, which led to many artistic adventures.

Lauren married her high school sweetheart at twenty-four. They had their first child the following year. The next six years of her life were taken up with caring for her three children. She found out early on that being a parent could be as devastating as it was wonderful. Her first two children developed life-threatening conditions. At four weeks, her son developed pyloric stenosis and two years later, at eight months of age, her daughter contracted meningococcal disease. Many surgeries and some very scary hospital stays later, Lauren’s third child was born and her parents cross their fingers and thank the gods that, so far, she hasn’t needed any life-saving surgery! Her son, eight, and two daughters, six and three, are now happy, mostly healthy, and extremely boisterous.

When Lauren hit her thirties and her children’s health problems began to settle, she started throwing herself into artistic endeavors, but was not entirely satisfied. The solution? Complete a massive renovation and sell their house so they could buy their dream block of land and build. After selling the house, buying the block, and getting the plans ready, the couple discovered they had been misled and the block was undevelopable. This left the family of five homeless.

Taken in by Lauren’s parents, with no home to renovate and faced with a stressful problem with no solution, Lauren found herself drawn to the computer. She sat down and poured all of her emotions and pent-up creative energy into writing The Woodlands.
Family, a multicultural background, and a dab of medical intrigue are all strong themes in her writing. Lauren took the advice of ‘write what you know’ and twisted it into a romantic, dystopian adventure!

The Demon's Desire by Kendra Leigh Castle
Hearts of the Fallen #2

He’s as dark and dangerous as the storms he once commanded…and she can’t get him out of her heart.

Dru has spent two thousand years fighting to keep the people of Terra Noctem safe. In all that time, she's only opened her heart to one man, with disastrous results. But when her city takes in a group of renegade Fallen, she finds herself drawn to the brooding and tormented Meresin, despite the fact that he seems to be the least redeemable of them all. When his instability hits a breaking point, Meresin’s only chance at survival is a perilous journey into a place from which few ever return. What he never expected was that confronting his demons would mean risking not only his future, but Dru's as well...and that one stubborn vampire might give him back not just hope…but his heart.

About Abby:

Ever since Abby Niles picked up her first Sweet Valley High book in sixth grade and fell in love with Elizabeth and Todd, she’s been hooked on romance. By the time she reached high school, she was devouring meatier romances with pirates, cowboys and knights. She never imagined that those years of reading would one day lead to her becoming a published author.

In her late twenties, after having twins and becoming a stay-at-home mom, she started doodling stories to keep her sanity. Next thing she knew, she was actually submitting to publishing houses. And was immediately rejected. That didn’t stop her though. She found herself some kickass critique partners, honed her craft, and continued submitting.

And eventually sold a short story, then a novella, then a novel, and now a series.

Today, she juggles work, home life, and writing. It’s not always easy, but hey, who said life was easy?

In her downtime, which isn’t often, you can find her playing ‘Just Dance’ with her kids or trying to catch up on her never-ending to-be-read list. She also loves Zumba, and refuses to admit she looks more like Animal doing his Muppet flail than a sensual Latin dancer.

About Kendra:

Kendra Leigh Castle was born and raised in the far and frozen reaches of Northern New York, where there was plenty of time to cultivate her love of reading thanks to the six-month-long winters. Sneaking off with selections from her mother’s vast collection of romance novels came naturally and fairly early, and a lifelong love of the Happily Ever After was born. After graduating from SUNY Oswego (where it also snowed a lot) with a teaching degree, Kendra ran off with a handsome young Navy fighter pilot and has somehow accumulated three children, three dogs, and one enormous cat during their many moves.

While stationed in a remote corner of the Nevada desert, Kendra penned her first romance, and a career often spent working in fuzzy slippers and pajamas was born. Her work has garnered both critical praise and award nominations, but the best part has been connecting with readers who share her love of dark romance (not to mention heroes with sharp, pointed teeth). Kendra currently lives in Maryland, and can usually be found curled up with her laptop and yet another cup of coffee working on her next book. She loves to hear from her readers, and can be contacted via email or her Facebook page.

Published By: Musa Publishing

Blurb:  When joined together, Cinderella's slippers grant the wearer her heart's desire. But whose wish will be granted?

When Cinderella’s glass slipper is stolen, Queen Felicia sends her faithful steward Terrance to the real world to retrieve his love and witch-in-training, Bianca Frost. The power of the glass slipper, when paired with its mate, and in the wrong hands, could ruin the peace of Everafter. Bianca must gather every bit of magic she has learned in the past few weeks to find the slipper and protect her new love. Together, Bianca, Ming, Prince Ferdinand, and Terrance venture deep into the heart of Everafter to seek clues as to who has stolen the slipper and why. Along the way, they uncover what happened to the Seven Dwarves after Snow White married the prince, but also learn the awful risk of tampering with black magic and the high price that must be paid for magic, even when used for good.

Bianca and Terrance’s relationship is put to the test. Through the pain of suffering and loss, Bianca must determine if following her gallant boyfriend into his faraway world is in fact her heart's desire.

**Received the ebook as part GHB tour for an honest review.

Okay, I definitely like this cover better than book #1, and it definitely makes you think Snow White.

I enjoyed this story and all the adventure, but it was still something I could put down at night to sleep even though I think I like this book more than book #1.  I really love the creativity it takes to make a whole new story from old fairy tales and that this is a good series.

I love Bianca because she is courageous and adventurous, but she is also very kind and caring.  Bianca is like a magnet for trouble which makes for an exciting read.  Along with Bianca, you still have all your other favorites Rose, Ming, David, Terrance, and Prince Ferdinand.  There are some new villains, and you meet the families in Everafter.

Again, I hope this book comes out in paperback because I want to add it to my classroom library.  I think the kids are really into fairy tale twists.

If you enjoyed the first book, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this adventure.  I can’t wait to see what Liz cooks up next for everyone.

First Frost #1

Blurb:  Fairytales aren’t real…yeah…that’s exactly what Bianca thought. She was wrong.

For generations, the Frost family has run the Museum of Magical and Rare Artifacts, handing down guardianship from mother to daughter, always keeping their secrets to “family only.”

Gathered within museum’s walls is a collection dedicated to the Grimm fairy tales and to the rare items the family has acquired: Cinderella’s glass slipper, Snow White’s poisoned apple, the evil queen’s magic mirror, Sleeping Beauty’s enchanted spinning wheel…

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Frost wants none of it, dreaming instead of a career in art or photography or…well, anything except working in the family’s museum. She knows the items in the glass display cases are fakes because, of course, magic doesn’t really exist.

She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Cover doesn’t do much for me personally, but the blurb hooked me.

I really like this story based on fairy tales.  It seems to be a recurring theme lately in both in books, TV, and movies.  There were a few slow parts, but it was building the story and completely necessary.  Could you imagine fairy tales being real? What if magic were real?  This story has all sorts of magic, action, and surprises.  I can’t wait to read the next book to see where it goes.  I wish I could get this book in paperback to share with my students in the classroom, but it looks like it is only available in ebook format.

I recommend this story to all those girls who love classic fairy tales but want a new twist on them.

About the Author:  I was born in northwest Illinois and spent my early years climbing trees and the headstones in the nearby cemetery and exploring the lush green world of dairy farms, meadows and wooded areas that still existed in rural America in the 60's.  My father was a minister at a small country church, and I always say my sisters and I grew up like the Bronte girls, living in the world of nature, books and our imaginations.  We moved to Iowa when I was ten but by then my internal world was already more satisfying than the real one.  I was pretty much a misfit—a hippie chick/intellectual rebel in a world of wholesome, sports-minded conformists.
I eventually moved to Wyoming, attended the University of Wyoming and after a brief stint in Venice, CA, married a Wyoming native and dedicated outdoors enthusiast.  Since there are few other places in the world where my husband could indulge his passions for trout fishing and antelope hunting less than an hour from our house, I'm probably here to stay.

After several jobs in public relations and advertising, I finally found my niche working in a public library and writing in my spare time.  I began writing fiction in 1990 and sold my first book in 1993. Despite the demands of raising two children (now grown), by 2002 I had published ten historical romances.  This last year, I began republishing my backlist as ebooks. I also began self-publishing my unsold manuscripts, including two new romances and a historical fantasy novel available this fall.
I especially enjoy writing about the dark age and medieval time periods, and I have a passion for all things Celtic.  The reason for that became clear to me when I came upon a letter written by my great-grandfather.  In it he explains that his family (the Logans) were druids and the family name came from a sacred hanging stone off the coast of Cornwall.  Well, of course—I was obviously a Celtic priestess in another life!
When I'm not working or writing I enjoy reading, traveling, spending time with my family and pets (a dog and four cats) and gardening.

Review & Giveaway - Collared for a Night by Susan Arden @romancebysusan

Collared for a Night
by Susan Arden

GenreErotic Paranormal

Synopsis

All it takes is one mistake to be marked. One bite, she crosses a line...into forever.

Diana Hambre's body is blazing. For days this leopardess shifter has spun through a body-searing heat cycle. Alone. Her senses reel when Shawn Barclay, her boss, walks into her reserved room at the Downtown Den, a stud club for shifters. He gives Diana a choice: spend the evening with him, give into his every desire, and she'll find out what it means to quench her heat-crazed thirst—or try her luck with a stranger, one of the club bangers.

Shawn hates when his back is against the wall. One sip of Diana’s pheromone-laced scent is enough to force his alpha hand. The tables have turned and it's Diana's back he wants up against a wall, or any other surface for that matter.

As the moon rises toward midnight, Shawn and Diana come to understand the difference between sex and bonding. For a night, neither of them resist their primal instincts, blindly giving into carnal desire. Her wild nature fights being subdued and she risks spontaneously shifting without warning.

Now, bearing Shawn's bite marks, she can’t simply walk away from him; not when he has the means to teach her to harness her leopardess nature. Shawn accepts the challenge of training Diana to control her untamed cravings. Employing every method available in and out of the bedroom, he discovers he's on the verge of ensnaring himself in the process.

Warning: Erotic scenes hot enough to peel paint.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 unicorns - I loved it!
** Received ebook as part of a blog tour for an honest review.

I love the cover especially the kitty with the big beautiful eyes :)

Ok first things first, a majority of this book is very steamy erotic scenes, so if that’s not your thing, then you may not want to read this book.  There is definitely a story to go with it, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  This is the first time I’ve read anything by Susan Arden, but after looking at the cover and the blurb I knew it was something I’d enjoy.  Her writing style makes it easy to visualize everything that is happening and be sucked into the characters’ lives.  Diana is trying to make her way in the world as a lone woman trying to control her leopardess half after personal tragedy.  She is a strong woman who does not like to admit she needs help, and she keeps people at arm’s length.  Shawn is a confident alpha who is a bachelor after being burned before with no plans for that changing ever.  Their story is awesome.
Only thing that I wish there was more of was their families.  I almost wonder if there will be another book involving meeting both of their families & closure which would rock, and I would definitely read it.  However, I have seen no indication of this being a series.

I loved this book and highly recommend it to paranormal romance lovers who like it steamy and hot.

High School Advice #10 - Do your BEST!! Guest post by Taylor Lavati @taylorjaneeeee, author of The Thousand Year Curse

Time for another guest post :)  This one comes to you from Taylor Lavati, the author of The Thousand Year Curse.

Onto her post and words of wisdom to share:

If I learned one thing from high school it’s that I didn’t try nearly enough. I skated by my classes, was an average athlete and had a normal social life, but I could have done so much more. I never really had anyone push me to excel until I was in college where my academic life was rocked on it’s side.

Looking back, I wish that I had tried harder in sports and in class. I could have gotten better grades or made captain but I chose not to. I think what held me back was a lack of motivation. If I was able to pass a class by not studying then that was okay for me and I could focus elsewhere.

Time goes by way too fast and you can never get a rewind or a redo. Just this summer has gone by in a flash and it’s already August! I think when I was in high school I was always telling myself, tomorrow I’ll study or tomorrow I’ll spend extra time working out. But tomorrow came and went and nothing happened.

Before I knew it high school was over and I was in the same place I was the day, month or year before. Don’t get me wrong, high school was great for me. I honestly loved high school but thinking back, I don’t even know what I did back then. I just drifted by and never really got a chance to discover myself until I went to college.

About the Author:  I am a twenty-two year old student. I study Early Childhood Education. I am an author, a reader and avid blogger. I enjoy everything that has to do with literature. My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, young adult, and romance.

I am from a small town in Connecticut, called Ridgefield. I graduated from Ridgefield High School in 2009. I danced in the Ridgefield Studio of Performing Arts dance company and played on the Varsity Girls Ice Hockey Team.

I enjoy being outside, whether it be hiking, swimming, playing sports or just sunbathing. My flat coated retriever Beau loves to be walked by myself and my boyfriend, Chris.

I am the author of, The Curse Books series. The Thousand Year Curse is the first in the installment and will be out this August. I also operate a book review website and really enjoy that.
