Review @JessaSlade - Cry Wolf by Elsa Jade (Wolves of Angels Rest #7)

Cry Wolf
Wolves of Angels Rest #7
by Elsa Jade

Goodreads blurb:  The killing moon is full…

The wolves of Angels Rest knew they’d have to face off against the shifter-hating Kingdom Guard some day. And that day has come.

Diesel has lived his whole life protecting others, so no way will he let the Guard bastards hurt anyone else. The pack is on lockdown until the battle is over. But then his past finally catches up with him.

Country-western star Willow Raleigh has been on the road for years, looking for something she lost a long time ago. And she finds more than she ever bargained for: a secret that will change her world, a menace that will change her body, and a love that will change her soul.

The cover is fits wonderfully with the rest of the series and calls to me :)

This is the 7th book in the series, and it is like the rest of the series for adults only due to the steamy content.  As always Elsa Jade does a fantastic job pulling me into the story where putting it down is not an option :)

New friends in Angels Rest!!!  This is Diesel and Willow’s story.  Things happen that snuck up on me because I was thinking in a completely different direction.  I really hope this series continues because I just love this world and conflicts and battles with the treacherous Kingdom Guard.  Elsa has a way with words!  I would love to visit Angels Rest and visit the Mesa.

I highly recommend this series to all shifter lovers because you will find something to love :)

She has had articles published in Altered Arts Magazine, has had some artwork displayed in galleries in Ohio and online, and currently teaches engineering, practical physics, drafting and other technological things to high school students in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Tell us about your day job.
In my day job, I’m a high school Technology Education teacher. Which means I do nothing with writing, except run a writer’s club once a month or so. I teach 9-12 graders practical physics (which sounds like an oxymoron, but itsn’t really), engineering, robotics, work skills, 3D modeling, architecture, drafting, and computer stuff. Depending on the year and what classes I have, anyway. I also run a gardening club and we play in the dirt sometimes. J

Which writers inspire you?
There are so many! Shakespeare and Austen are always at the top of my list. Tolkien is up there too. In the YA/MG world, I love the way that Lisa Ann Sandell’s words just flow, and I love Rick Riordan’s imagination. And…well, let’s just stop there. I love so many!

What is your writing process like?
My writing process is in flux. I am making “office” hours for myself after work, but in a general sense, I keep a writing journal with me all the time. I write notes to myself about things I’m working on or thinking about. When I have enough of an idea that I feel like I can start writing, I try to make sure and sit down and write out the main points. It’s a really basic outline that I go back and add to until its fully fleshed out. But I’m not married to it. If I write and end up somewhere else, I just adapt the outline to work. When I finish a draft, I go through and the first things I do for edits is a search through the document for words I know I use too many (that, just, etc) and then I sit down and try to read it through, looking for mistakes. Once I’ve got it as good as I think it can be, I send it to critters and see what they say. Then I start again!

What are you reading right now?
Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff

Do you have an author crush?
Neil Gaiman.

Quick questions:
Physical books or eBooks?
Physical Books, though I love my ereader too.
Coke or Pepsi?
Coke! Really, root beer, cause I don’t drink caffeine anymore.
Twitter or Facebook?
Both for different things? I like the immediate gratification of Twitter, but I like FB too!
Song you can’t get out of your head right now?
Well, I was doing fine until you asked that. Now Steampunk Revolution by Abney Park is back in my brain. Grrrr.
Sweet or salty?
Sweet.
Coffee or tea?
TEA.
Write on computer or notebook paper?
Blank. Even though I can’t write in a straight line.

Javier Roque’s wolf never rose, so he left Angels Rest to make his own way. Until a deadly threat to his pack brought him home.

The cover is awesome and makes me want to grab the book by cover alone :)

This is the 6th book in the Wolves of Angels Rest series.  It is for adults only due to the steamy content.  Even though, you can read the book standalone, I highly advise against this.  You will miss out on so much of the characters background and how the world is if you do.  So I highly recommend reading them all and in order :)

This is Corrine’s story of moving on, and we learn about a new (old) pack member Javier.  They both have things to work through.  I really loved their story because they have this strength that no one else knows or understands.  I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series :)

I highly recommend this series to all shifter lovers especially if wolf packs are your favorite and if you love Elsa’s work like I do :)

Review @_JKHarper - New Year Wolf (Black Mesa Wolves) by J.K. Harper

New Year Wolf
a Black Mesa Wolves story
in
Shifters in the Snow Anthology
by J.K. Harper

Blurb:  With devoted mate Rielle at his side, wolf shifter Caleb Bardou is slowly piecing back together his recently shattered life. He's a fighter at heart—but when he was justifiably stripped of his Pack Guardian status, it about knocked him out cold. Throwing his energy into a successful new business training other shifters to circuit fight with Rielle cheering him on all the way, Caleb has found a new path in life. Then an unexpected cross punch almost trips him up. His answering jab will determine the course of the rest of his life...if only he can overcome a burning anger at an old enemy.

About the Author:  J.K. Harper writes about paranormal romance and urban fantasy because despite a lifetime of wishing, all the cool supernatural book characters of her childhood just don't seem to be real. Besides, it's just really fun to make stuff up and play around in her imagination.

Julie is owned by three cats, two horses, and a dog. More horses are always a good thing, so she's working on adding to the herd. She lives in the rugged, gorgeous canyon country of the Southwest, which is a great place to let her imagination run wild.

****PARTIAL REVIEW****

At this time, I have only read New Year Wolf in this set.  It is a short story and a Black Mesa Wolves story.

This is a short story about Caleb and Ree.  This is for adults only due to the steamy content.

Caleb reminds me of someone who always think everyone is out to get him at times.  Ree is his calm and sometimes his brain.  This story is about turning over a new leaf as the New Year often represents.  It is a great addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see what happens next with the Black Mesa Wolves and for Caleb and Ree.

I recommend this story and this set to all the shifters fans out there.  While I haven’t read them all YET, I will :)

Review - Bear Arms by Lynn Red (Mating Call Dating Agency #4)

Bear Arms
Mating Call Dating Agency #4
by Lynn Red

Goodreads blurb:  Rabbit-shifting blogger Alexis Headly just needs to vent about some potholders she screwed up. She feels like her skin is crawling, her scalp is prickly, and she’s about ready to go COMPLETELY nuts... unless she finds a mate.

But where’s a girl to look? Especially one as busy, as neurotic, and as temperamental as Lexie?

For the last five years, bear-shifting soldier Blake Rogan has known nothing but desert. As a jack-of-all-trades mechanic, he’s fixed everything from jammed up helicopter blades to busted ATV treads. But now, as he’s returning home for the first time in half a decade, he’s got something a whole lot trickier to mend: his heart.

Lexie knows she’s on the verge of going batty which is especially bad for a rabbit. That is, until her phone rings and she suddenly finds her ears filled with growly, sexy, bear voice. Could it be? Did Eve and the Mating Call Dating Agency come through for her?

With a bang (and a trip, and a fall and a totally awesome somersault) Lexie and Blake are just in time to save each other from a long trip down the well of insanity... but will Lexie’s uncertainty and Blake’s lingering fear of trust get in the way of something they both know in their hearts they need?

About the Author:  Lynn doesn't love anything more than being wrapped up in a hammock with her corgi on her stomach and a pile of her favorite books to read. And by "pile of books" she means "a kindle."

She loves all sorts of romance, but especially ones that feature big, strong alphas who will stop at nothing to prove themselves to the women who melt their hearts.

The cover definitely grabs my attention with the beautiful beasts on the cover :)

This is the 4th book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content.  It is about 120 pages long.

Lynn Red’s stories are always a great read and make me happy reading them.  She has this quirky and silly humor that makes me chuckle.  It is uniquely her and runs in all of her books.  I always know I will enjoy her books :)

I hate admitting, but I am behind and this is the first book I’ve read in this series.  I will be catching up in this series in the future :)  This story is about Alexis and Blake.  Blake is a bear and soldier who just got out of the service.  Alexis is a rabbit and internet famous.  I always find it amusing when a big ‘ole bear shifter ends up with a rabbit shifter.  There is not a lot of action, and even though that is usually my thing, I liked the personal battles and drama they had to overcome….it worked :)  I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone.

I recommend this story to shifter fans especially if you already love Lynn Red’s work!!  I can’t wait to read more in this series!!

Review @AussieRomantic - Portal by Ashlea Rhodes (Portal #1)

Portal
Portal #1
by Ashlea Rhodes

Goodreads blurb:  Sophie:
"Curiosity killed the cat" or so the old saying insisted. Sophie thinks her life is simple and perfect in Melbourne's western suburbs. And it is, until one day she finds herself in the arms of a golden eyed stranger. The undeniably irresistible stranger boils her blood and claims to have travelled through a portal from another world.
Crazy Talk!
Or is it?

Phoenix:
Being the second son to the alpha wolf was always easy; until Phoenix's older brother, Ray, went missing. Now his lone wolf lifestyle is being threatened when his father announces his retirement. Phoenix is desperate. He will do anything to avoid being made alpha, even if it means following an old myth about magical doorways.

What he was not expecting was his wolf's need to claim a gorgeous red head with eyes of green fire. His wolf says she is his but this lone wolf will fight to stay just that; alone. What is he to do?

When Phoenix discovers Sophie is the key to get both Ray and him home, he will do anything to achieve that goal. Even if it means using the one person made just for him. Mating Sophie could mean saving his people but in doing so will mean giving up his dreams.

When danger calls will they put their fears aside and embrace their fate?

About the Author, Ashlea Rhodes:  Hey there!

I started writing in High School but never finished anything I started, even when others liked what I'd written. I didn't pick up on reading till I turned 15 and once I started, you couldn't pull me away from books.

I'm an Aussie chick, born and bred in the Western suburbs of Melbourne, who's a romantic at heart. Most of my writing is based on lurve with HEAs. After becoming good friends with a lot of indie authors over the past 2 years I decided to give my writing another go and early 2014 picked up where I left off. I started writing my first book Portal that I hope to get published late 2015.

Despite being into dresses and makeup, underneath I'm still a tomboy! Ooo, and I love shiny things :)

The cover looks magical and reminds me of what I think a portal would look like all shiny and full of light.

This is the first book in the series.  It has shifters and vampires.  This is definitely for adults do to the steamy scenes.  I really like this world that Ashlea has created.  It is complex and full of magic.  Ashlea does a great job weaving a complex plot where things happen that knock you for a loop.  She also had me on an emotional rollercoaster where tears were involved.

Sophie starts off as more naïve and would get upset for really no reason, but she grew up a lot throughout the story.  I liked her a whole lot more when she grew a backbone and started fighting for what she wanted.  Phoenix was an enigma in the beginning, and I didn’t really understand his lone wolf attitude.  He definitely grows on you.

I really enjoyed this book.  It did have some of the typical issues with creating a whole new world where parts were a bit slow for me, but I’m an action all the way girl :)  I think this series will get better, and I can’t wait to read Jessica and Ray’s story.

I recommend this story to paranormal fans who like vampires, shifters, and magic :)

Would You Rather With Michael Gibney

Would you rather never be able to speak again or always have to say everything that is on your mind?
Everything that is on my mind. I value honesty and the power of words, both written and audible. It’s not in my nature to stay silent, especially concerning injustice i.e. Animal Cruelty, etc.

Would you rather be able to read or be able to read minds (but be illiterate)?
I can do both. Haha. Read. I’d find reading people’s minds an invasion of their privacy, unless it was to help them.

Would you rather be able to speak fluently every language in the world or be the best in the world at something of your choosing?
Be the best in the world at something. Reason being I love the fact that learning another language is a feeling of achievement and an exciting challenge. I wouldn’t want that challenge made easy.

Would you rather read only one book over and over for the rest of your life or read as many as you want but never remember what they’re about?
Oh, tough one. Well, if you can’t remember there’s not much point. Seems like a waste of time and effort for nothing, so I’d go for reading one book and that would be J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan (aka Peter and Wendy). The best fantasy book ever written in my opinion. So simple but yet such Genius.

Would you rather only the first page of a book or the last page?
Last Page. I always have to find out how a story ends.

Would you rather read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
Five books a week if I could and had the time. Knowledge is power.

Would you rather read only one genre forever or never read the same genre more than once?
One genre forever because you’d quickly run out of genres, right? And there’s plenty of amazing books and various sub-genres to be found in the Sci-Fi and Horror genre. Not so much in the romance genre.

Would you rather be invisible or be able to read minds?
Invisible. Would be so much fun but not if it’s like the Predator or Hollowman/The Invisible Man. That would suck.

Would you rather never use the internet again or never watch TV again?
Never watch TV again. There’s too much sad news and superficial reality shows on TV these days and not to mention a cluster of commercials. Yes, give me the Internet, so I can watch the art, music, movies I want and keep in contact with those I love around the world. Much better than a one way street of TV.

Would you rather have one wish granted today or three granted in 10 years?
Definitely one wish granted today. Life is unpredictable and short. We’re not guaranteed anything. Also, I hate waiting. Patience is a virtue. Possess it if you can. Seldom in a woman, but never in a man.

Would you rather know it all or have it all?
Have it all. I’m a deep enough thinker and have a strong enough imagination as it is and that can be quite exhausting. So, knowing it all would drive me crazy. Plus, one would be viewed as pretentious and arrogant if they had the ability to know it all. And both are not good attributes. =)
