Review - The Alchemist's Perfect Instrument by A.L. Davroe @aldavroe

The Alchemist’s Perfect Instrument
City Steam #1
by A.L. Davroe

Goodreads blurb:  As the citizens in the Windward Empire’s capital city of Dormorn sleep, an Alchemist prowls the streets in search of the newest victim for his “Perfect Instrument.”

This is a story meant for older readers. While reading this story, keep in mind that things aren't always what they seem.

This story is a "vignette" in a serialized collection.

About the Author:  I write both YA and adult speculative fiction. I'm represented by Louise Fury of the L. Perkins Literary Agency. My debut YA paranormal romance novel, FOR YOUR HEART, comes out Fall 2013.

By day, I live in Connecticut my two feline hench-creatures. I'm a terrible blusher, have a weak spot for cuddly animals, love Laffy Taffy and Cadbury MiniEggs, and I'm a huge advocate of alternative healing methods. I also wear Vibram five-finger toe shoes and corsets...Though not always in the same ensemble. I'm a Capricorn, a Hufflepuff, and a few nuggets short of a Happy Meal. I also suffer from Resting B****face Syndrome (RBS), so even though I might look like I'll tie you in a knot if you come near me, I'm more afraid of you than you are of me (see blushing problem above).

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 unicorns - I liked it!!

Okay, I bought this book because A.L. is a sweetheart, and I think I had won a giftcard or something in one of her giveways.

The cover is very intriguing and definitely lives up to the steampunk genre, but I don’t know there is anything really to link it directly to the story.

I don’t read too many short stories, and this is my very first in the steampunk genre.  I liked it, but it is not my usual type of book.  I usually like some good with my evil if that makes sense.  It is beautifully written and very descriptive, so you feel like you are there.  But I didn’t want to be because the Alchemist is creepy and seems like he escaped from somewhere he shouldn’t have.

I will of course continue to read A.L.’s book because she rocks.  If you haven’t been to her website, you should visit.  :)

I recommend this story to those people who like the darker stories where bad things do happen.
