The
Darkest Minds
The Darkest Minds #1
by Alexandra Bracken
Goodreads blurb: When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday,
something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her
parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent
to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived
the mysterious disease that had killed most of America’s children, but she and
the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they could
not control.
Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones. When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. She is on the run, desperate to find the only safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who have escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents. When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at having a life worth living.

My Thoughts - 5 out of
5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review
based on what intrigues me!! I bought both paperback and ebook copies
of this book (though not on purpose), but no one tells me what to think, feel,
or write about any book!
The
new cover is what spurred me to read this book because I may have another copy
of the paperback with the old cover though I’m not sure yet, but it looks
suspiciously familiar.
Wow,
this book definitely has some messed up stuff in it! As both a teacher and a parent, I pray that
no one would ever do this to children.
In most dystopic societies, we get to see the worst in humanity. I love books where we evolve and in this case
they get powers. Ruby is amazing and very
perceptive when it comes to living through this. I was thrown for loops on many occasions right
along with Ruby. Liam, Chubs, and Suzume.
I loved following them along on their adventure and seeing their fighting
spirit while at the same time retaining their humanity. The story is told in an amazing way that
pulls you in and doesn’t let go! When it
is over, you want more! I can’t wait to
read the next book!
I
highly recommend to any fans of YA dystopic fiction! I think if you love Maze Runner and Hunger
Games, then this is another series for you!
