About the book:  Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.

Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.

Jace Hammond has a big problem.

A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.
As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.

Audiobook Review @paolini - Eragon by Christopher Paolini (The Inheritance Cycle #1)

Eragon
The Inheritance Cycle #1
by Christopher Paolini

Goodreads blurb:  One boy . . .

One dragon . . .

A world of adventure.

When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic, and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds.

Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands.

About the Author:  Christopher Paolini was born on November 17, 1983 in Southern California. He has lived most of his life in Paradise Valley, Montana with his parents and younger sister, Angela. The tall, jagged Beartooth Mountains rise on one side of Paradise Valley. Snowcapped most of the year, they inspired the fantastic scenery in the Inheritance Cycle.

Christopher is grateful to all his readers. He is especially heartened to hear that his books have inspired young people to read and to write stories of their own. Although Christopher will one day return to Alagaƫsia, he is currently working on a science fiction novel.

***I own a hard cover copy, but I borrowed the Playaway audiobook from my local library

The cover for this book is always awesome no matter which version you see :)  though my favorite is the first one that is on my hard cover book.

I read this book almost 10 years ago (in 2006).  I knew my son would love this book; however, he has an attention span problem when it comes to big books.  Since we have been enjoying audiobooks in the car, I jumped at the chance to borrow it from the local library.  My mom decided we were taking a road trip to get a puppy she wanted from a shelter 5 hours away, so this was the perfect opportunity to listen to 10 of the 16 hours of the book.  Another benefit was to introduce my mom to audiobooks.  I think both my mom and son are hooked on audiobooks.  For those who don’t know what the Playaway is, it is basically just like an ipod but for one book only.  This is great for people who are technology challenged like my mother.  She gets to listen without having to load the player with the book she wants to listen to.

This book is outstanding, and you cannot even compare it to the movie.  The book is a million times better than the movie.  Though, I secretly wish, they would do it over and do it some justice because this whole series is phenomenal :)

It does not happen often that I go back to a book I’ve already read just because there are so many fantastic books out there, but I’m glad I listened to the audiobook of this book.  The narrator does a fantastic job….though personally I do not like how the Saphira’s voice was done.  It is the only part of the audiobook that just didn’t seem to fit in my opinion.

Christopher Paolini is just an amazing author especially considering how young his was when it is written.  His vocabulary is above and beyond us mere humans…lol especially of typical high school students.  My mom was floored at some of the words he used, and she kept saying there was no way a 15 year old wrote the book.

I will read any book he puts out about his world of AlagaĆ«sia.  The creativity and complex storylines are epic.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves books with dragons, elves, and magic, and I think especially if you love Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit worlds that you must read this series or you miss out!!!

Audiobook Review @rayadverb @RidleyPearson - Peter and the Shadow Thieves by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson

Peter and the Shadow Thieves
Peter and the Starcatchers #2
by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson

Goodreads blurb:  In this riveting and adventure-packed follow-up to the award-winning New York Times bestseller Peter and the Starcatchers, Peter leaves the relative safety of Mollusk Island - along with his trusted companion, Tinker Bell - for the dark and dangerous streets of London. On a difficult journey across the sea, he and Tink discover the mysterious and deadly Lord Ombra, who is intent on recovering the missing starstuff - celestial dust that contains unimagined powers. In London, Peter attempts to track down the indomitable Molly, hoping that together they can combat Ombra's determined forces. But London is not Mollusk Island; Peter is not the boy he used to be; and Lord Ombra - the Shadow Master - is unlike anything Peter, or the world, has ever seen.

Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have done it again - written a compulsively readable, magical, impossible-to-put-down tale that will delight readers of all ages.

About the Authors:
Dave Barry is a humor columnist. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Many people are still trying to figure out how this happened.

Dave has also written a total of 30 books, although virtually none of them contain useful information. Two of his books were used as the basis for the CBS TV sitcom "Dave's World," in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of Dave.
Dave plays lead guitar in a literary rock band called the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose other members include
Stephen KingAmy TanRidley Pearson and Mitch Albom. They are not musically skilled, but they are extremely loud. Dave has also made many TV appearances, including one on the David Letterman show where he proved that it is possible to set fire to a pair of men's underpants with a Barbie doll.

In his spare time, Dave is a candidate for president of the United States. If elected, his highest priority will be to seek the death penalty for whoever is responsible for making Americans install low-flow toilets.

Dave lives in Miami, Florida, with his wife, Michelle, a sportswriter. He has a son, Rob, and a daughter, Sophie, neither of whom thinks he's funny.

Connect with Dave:

Ridley Pearson is the author of more than twenty novels, including the New York Times bestseller KILLER WEEKEND; the Lou Boldt crime series; and many books for young readers, including the award-winning children's novels PETER AND THE STARCATCHERS, PETER AND THE SHADOW THIEVES, and PETER AND THE SECRET OF RUNDOON, which he cowrote with Dave Barry. Pearson lives with his wife and two daughters, dividing their time between Missouri and Idaho.

Also writes Chris Klick mysteries as
Wendell McCall.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!

***Borrowed the audiobook CD’s from the library

The cover is definitely reminds you of Peter Pan with the flying out the window scene :)

I really like this series and so does my son.  I know the library has the first 4 books in audio, so we will be borrowing them all to listen in the car.

This is such a fun series with tons of adventure.  My son and I love listening to it in the car before and after school.  If I could nail my son down longer than this, we would listen to more of it each day but sadly I just don’t have the time.  This is a long book with 9 CDs to listen to.  I loved the whole thing.  Peter is very courageous, but he tends to cause much trouble like any normal boy.  Tink is a spit fire, and it is always humorous to listen to Peter’s translations of what she says to everyone.  Of course, boys are in the story though they do not play as big of a part in this story as well as the Mullosk people.  Molly is a major part of the story again, and she is just as brave as the last story though she definitely has some girl fits of temper in this story.

I love how well the story is told by the authors.  Their descriptions make the story easy to relate to, and I got pulled right into it.

I highly recommend this series to adventuresome kids who would love a good story related to Peter Pan, but it is so unique and wonderful to listen or read.  I have already recommended it to several students in the high school when the topic of Peter Pan came up during spirit week for fairy tale day.  Well time to find something new :)

RELEASE DATE: 3/10/15
SERIES: Magic and Machinery Series
GENRE: STEAMPUNK
PUBLISHER: CRIMSON TREE PUBLISHING

WOLVES OF THE NORTHERN RIFT

In a world of science, magic is an abomination.

Magic is an abomination. It spread from the Rift, a great chasm hundreds of miles long that nearly split the southern continent in two. The Rift was a portal, a gateway between their world of science and the mythological world of magic.

On the northern continent of Ocker, King Godwin declared that no magical monstrosity would be allowed within their borders. The Royal Inquisitors were formed to investigate reports of mystical occurrences and, should they be found, to destroy them.

Inquisitor Simon Whitlock knows his responsibilities all too well. Along with the apothecary, Luthor Strong, they’ve spent two years inquiring into such reports of magical abominations, though they’ve discovered far more charlatans than true magical creatures. When assigned to investigate Haversham and its reports of werewolves, Simon remains unconvinced that the rumors are true. What he discovers in the frozen little hamlet is that the werewolves are far more real than he believed; yet they’re hardly the most dangerous monster in the city.

Review @katiereus - Claiming His Mate by Savannah Stuart (Crescent Moon #2)

Claiming His Mate
Crescent Moon #2
by Savannah Stuart

Goodreads blurb:  She thought the house was empty when she broke in…

When jaguar shifter Lauren Hayes breaks into an alpha’s home to steal back what rightfully belongs to her pride, she doesn’t expect to be tackled by Max McCray, second-in-command of the Kincaid wolf pack. As punishment for her crime the sexy wolf shifter demands that she stay with him for one week. Knowing she’ll start a war between her pride and his pack if she doesn’t, she has no other choice but to agree, even if the thought of being near him 24/7 makes her scared that she won’t be able to hide her growing attraction to him.

Now he has a week to make her his…

Max has waited months to make a move on the sexy jaguar shifter and now that she’s broken shifter rules, he’s not letting her go. He doesn’t care that he’s a wolf and she’s a jaguar, claiming her forever is the only thing that matters. Unfortunately, not everyone likes the idea of him being with a feline shifter. Max is forced to choose sides between Lauren and members of the pack he’s sworn allegiance to in order to protect the woman he knows is his destined mate.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!

***I bought this back in 2013, and then saw it on Netgalley and requested it before I realized that I owned it already as well as book 1 :)

The cover is another sexy man chest :)  I like it :)

I think this book had more action than the first one which is definitely more to my liking :)  I really liked both Lauren and Max as characters especially when they were telling each other how it is.  Lauren owns up to her mistakes, and she is always willing to jump in and help.  She doesn’t look down her nose at the wolves.  Max is a great 2nd, and he doesn’t have any problems with the jaguars.  I easily was pulled into the story and connected with the characters.  I hope to see more of the characters as the series goes on :)  I do not like giving away any part of the story, so know there is more action, drama, and mystery to keep you engaged in reading this story :)

I really like Savannah’s (Katie’s) writing style, and I think the more I read the better it gets.  I think anytime you start reading a new author, you have to get used to their style before you really connect, and it also has to do with your mood when you read it.  I truly believe that I have read books and thought it was okay, and a few years later read it and thought the same exact book was fantastic.  So always remember, these are my feelings and opinions today :)

I recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys reading shifter books :)  Time to go read something new :)

Review - Taming the Alpha by Savannah Stuart (Crescent Moon #1)

Taming the Alpha
Crescent Moon #1
by Savannah Stuart

Goodreads blurb:  After a year of lusting after his sexy employee, werewolf pack-leader Grant broke his no-involvement-with-humans rule and made a move on Talia. A month later the sex is still red hot and everything between them is perfect. Or so he thought. Until the night he shows up at her place expecting their usual ritual of mind-blowing sex and finds out she has other plans. And they don’t include him.

When Talia announces she’s tired of being his last priority, Grant realizes he might lose the only woman he’s ever cared about. He has to do something fast to fix their relationship, but she’s completely unaware that he’s not human. He’s not above using sex to bind her to him, but when she wants more than that he has a risky decision to make. If he admits the truth he risks not only his heart, but the safety of his pack and the existence of all supernatural beings as well.

The cover is definitely some nice eye candy even though he has no face :)

I bought this back in 2013, and I decided that I should read it :)  I’m definitely glad I did!  This is my first time reading Savannah’s work or Katie’s for that matter.  I didn’t realize until doing my review that Katie Reus is Savannah.  My mom and my grandma have both read books by Katie and will buy anything she writes :)

This is a novella length story and the first in the series.  There is some action in this book, but it is mostly about Grant and Talia’s personal and sexual issues.  From the glimpses that I have seen of the world created by Savannah, it is pretty cool.  Since this book focuses on their relationship issues, you do not get a lot of details on the world.  I am definitely intrigued, and I can’t wait to see what I learn more about this world next.  I think it is going to get better as the series goes especially as I become more invested in the characters :)

I recommend this book to those who love the personal drama involved in shifter relationships and to all the Katie Reus fans who already love everything she writes :)

***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review, but I do own the Taming the Alpha bundle where it is also published :)

The cover is beautiful :)  I really like it….especially the blue eyed fox :)

This is a novella and only around 40ish pages.  This is a story about one of the members of the family that is part of the Lord of Misrule serial series.  This is a prequel before those brothers are alive.

This story has some very sad parts that had my heart breaking for Michael, but I am not going to give more details than it is sad.  I think it would be kind of cool to live way off in nature without human interference, but then I realized, I couldn’t do the whole kill my dinner thing….I’m too empathetic towards the wildlife for that.  The fox is still a puzzle for me, but I’m pretty sure we will see her and Michael in another story in the future.  I really enjoyed this story and getting to know Michael, but I did wish it was longer and that I learned more about the Goodfellow family and the fox….so many questions rolling around my head about them all, but I have to try to be patient…lol yeah right!!

I recommend this story to anyone who is reading the Lord of Misrule serial because I think you will enjoy this too and to shifter fans :)  I hope we don’t have to wait long for more about Michael :)

DESCENDING (Book #2)

When Xanthus cashes in a long-standing favor, Kyros is faced with doing two things he thought he'd never do—protect a mermaid and live on land. Dagonians loathe mermaids and Sara, Xanthus's wife, is no exception. Also, a Dagonian standing on human legs? As if being around the vile creatures responsible for polluting his home and killing his sister wasn't horrible enough, Kyros has to deal with Sara's troublesome human friend, Gretchen.

Kyros can't help but resent Gretchen. Not only is she human and unforgettably gorgeous, but she leaves him swimming in confusion and feeling things he shouldn't be feeling—least of all for a land-walker! When Gretchen is nearly killed by an assassin's bullet, Kyros's mission changes. He's forced to become her protector. Forced is a gross exaggeration, though. The more time Kyros spends with Gretchen, the more he finds himself falling for this spunky, witty human. When it becomes apparent that something dark and evil will stop at nothing to see Gretchen dead, Kyros expends his resources to find out who that being is. Unfortunately, the answer causes more problems than it solves. When a rogue mermaid wants you dead, you’re safe from no one… not even the ones you love.
