Review - Sacrificed to the Dragon: Part Four by Jessie Donovan @JessieDauthor (Stonefire Dragons#4)

Sacrificed to the Dragon:  Part Four
Stonefire Dragons #4
by Jessie Donovan

Goodreads blurb:  PART FOUR (of Four)
Melanie and Tristan look like they just might have a chance at a future together. At least, until Tristan receives a call that brings his hatred of humans back into the forefront of his mind.

Will Tristan finally overcome his hatred of humans and cherish the female sacrifice who has started to capture his heart? And even if he does, will Melanie be able to survive the birth of her half-dragon-shifter baby?

This final installment answers both of these questions and so much more...read to find out what happens!

Sacrificed to the Dragon: Part Four is 21,000 words of dragon-shifter/BBW romance. It is the final entry in the Sacrificed serial, chronicling Melanie Hall's efforts to fulfill her contract and conceive a dragon-shifter child.

The story contains strong sexual themes and language, and is not intended for readers under the age of 18. These stories are meant to be read in order. Thank you!

About the Author:  Jessie Donovan wrote her first story at age five, and after discovering the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey in junior high, realized that people actually wanted to read stories like those floating around inside her head. From there on out, she was determined to tap into her over-active imagination and write a book someday.

After living abroad for five years and earning degrees in Japanese, Anthropology, and Secondary Education, she buckled down and finally wrote her first full-length book. While that story will never see the light of day, it laid the world-building groundwork of what would become her debut paranormal romance, Blaze of Secrets.

Jessie loves to interact with readers. When not reading or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, can often be found on Facebook and Twitter.

The one thing you'll find in all of Jessie's stories are strong, capable women and the people who love them.

The cover is again totally awesome, and I love the blue used on the cover too :)

Definitely an awesome conclusion to the serial, and I loved every minute of it.  Melanie is an amazing woman and my favorite kind of female lead.  Tristan is now an awesome man that I no longer feel needs to be slapped.

Jessie is a phenomenal writer who makes the story come alive.  I definitely didn’t want it end.  I know she has Bram story coming, so I’m happy about that.  I just hope we will still get to see my favorite characters from this serial and updates on the family.  The Stonefire Clan is awesome and I can’t wait to read more of their adventures, and I’m hoping we will also get to meet other clans along the way too :)

This series is definitely the best serial I’ve read to date.  I highly recommend it to all my dragon lovin’ shifter friends out there.

Review - Blast of the Dragon's Fury by L.R.W. Lee @LRWLee (Andy Smithson #1)

Blast of the Dragon’s Fury
Andy Smithson #1
by L.R.W. Lee

Goodreads blurb:  From the After Life, ten-year-old Andy Smithson’s relatives initiated a curse 500 years ago. Now they no longer agree it should continue and one is willing to sacrifice Andy’s life to end it. Unaware of the disagreement and with no say in the matter, Andy is unexpectedly and magically transported from his home. He finds himself in the Land of Oomaldee, facing mortal danger at every turn as he seeks to find a scale from a rare red dragon, the most ferocious of dragon species, to break the curse and save his life.

About the Author:  Since the age of eight, L. R. W. Lee wanted to write a children’s book, but felt she did not have anything significant to share; she sought to change lives while entertaining. A degree in Accounting did not provide riveting fodder for a best seller, so she waited. Over a decade, she founded and grew a company, during which, she worked closely with a mentor from whom she learned uncommon thinking that changed her life. After selling her business in early 2012, she had time to write and, more importantly, something significant to share.

L. R. W. Lee lives in scenic Austin, TX with her husband, daughter and son.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!

***I own this book, but the author was also kind enough to send me a copy for my classroom to share with my students

The cover is awesome and reminds me of Sleeping Beauty where the prince is battling the dragon.  Of course it is a completely different picture, but that’s what jumped into my mind :)

Okay when I started reading this book, I was confused as to what was going on which made it a little slow for me.  Of course, the confusion quickly cleared up.  I definitely found myself chuckling thinking my son would love this book.  Ah, who knew a fart could be so useful….lol  Totally my son’s sense of humor.  While I know this book is a middle grade book, I think most boys would find amusement and adventure in this book.

As a parent, I love that it brings up issues of truth, honesty, integrity, and perseverance.  These are all things that tend to be difficult to teach our children, and I think the book does a fabulous job illustrating them.  I think I’m definitely going to have my son read this book or read it with him in the future.

Andy and Alden are great characters and are easily relatable to readers.  Definitely plenty of adventure, and I can’t wait to start the next book.  I think this series will only get better with each book.

I recommend this book to any boy who loves adventure, dragons, puzzles, and those who find humor in a fart (this alone will attract my son).

Review - Sacrificed to the Dragon: Part Three by Jessie Donovan @JessieDauthor (Stonefire Dragons#3)

Sacrificed to the Dragon:  Part Three
Stonefire Dragons #3
by Jessie Donovan

Goodreads blurb:  PART THREE (of Four)
Melanie's future hinges on her meeting with Tristan's sister, Arabella. The dragonwoman suffered at the hands of a group of dragon hunters a decade ago, and she hates humans even more than Tristan. Can Melanie find a way to break through the female dragon-shifter's barriers? And even if she does, will it be enough to convince Tristan to give her a chance?

Sacrificed to the Dragon: Part Three is 15,300 words of dragon-shifter/BBW romance. It is the third entry in the Sacrificed serial, chronicling Melanie Hall's efforts to fulfill her contract and conceive a dragon-shifter child.

The story contains strong sexual themes and language, and is not intended for readers under the age of 18. These stories are meant to be read in order. Thank you!

The cover is beautiful :)  I love it, and it definitely grabs my attention to pick it up.  Very steamy :)

I’m not feeling very well this weekend, and I decided last night to read in bed.  I can’t believe how quickly I was at the end.  Things you may want to know, this is a serial novella series.  What does this mean?  This means you must read them in order or you will be lost.  Also this episode is only about 50 pages.  I have read several serials now, and Jessie does a fantastic job of meshing them together and stopping at place that makes sense and feels right.  You don’t feel like someone slammed the door in your face so to speak.

Okay Tristan is starting to grow on me, and I didn’t want to slap him once in this episode :)  Melanie is of course awesome.  I love her fighting spirit, but she is also caring and kind.  She is the type of female lead I love to read about :)  I’m very curious about Arabella, but I haven’t made any decisions yet about what I think about her.

I highly recommend this series to all my shifter friends who love dragons.  This serial is complete now, so please don’t let that stop you from enjoying a wonderful story :)  I’m off to read part 4 :)

Review @Month9Books - Predator by Janice Gable Bashman @janicebashman

Predator
by Janice Gable Bashman

Goodreads blurb:  "Predator is a fast-paced, creepy page-turner! Bashman had me at the opening sentence and she's still got me. I want more!" Nancy Holder, New York Times Bestselling Author, The Rules.

The hunt is on! Sixteen-year-old Bree Sunderland must inject herself with an untested version of her father’s gene therapy to become a werewolf in order to stop a corrupt group of mercenaries from creating a team of unstoppable lycanthrope soldiers.

When Bree went with her scientist father to Ireland, she thought it would be a vacation to study bog bodies. She never expected to fall in love with a mysterious young Irishman and certainly never expected to become the kind of monster her father said only existed in nightmares. Dr. Sunderland discovers that lycanthropy was not a supernatural curse but rather a genetic mutation. When they return home, her dad continues his research, but the military wants to turn that research into a bio weapons program and rogue soldiers want to steal the research to turn themselves into unstoppable killing machines.

Bree’s boyfriend Liam surprises her with a visit to the United States, but there are darker surprises in store for both of them. As evil forces hunt those she loves, Bree must become an even more dangerous hunter to save them all.

She will become the thing she hates, to protect those she loves!

Predator gives the werewolf legend a couple of new spins by introducing the Benandanti (an actual folkloric belief that certain families of Italy and Livonia were werewolves who fought against evil), as well as a modern scientific approach to mutation and the science of transgenics.

"Every twist and fascinating revelation fell into place smoothly, with an ending that will leave readers wanting more. With this kind of originality on the page, it is exciting to speculate at the surprises Bashman will unveil next."  —Suspense Magazine

***Received this ebook from the publisher Month9Books for an honest review

The cover is creepy and fierce looking.  I really like it.

Wow, lots of things happening it this book, but it did have some slow parts for me.  I think that Janice set up an awesome world that is only going to get better if it is a series.  At this point, I have no idea where this will be a series or not, but it left like there is more to come but with closure if that makes sense.

There are definitely some unique ideas in this world that I haven’t read before.  Janice’s descriptions are very life like, and you can see it happening while you are reading it.  She definitely threw me for a couple of loops that I didn’t expect.  As always, I will not give anything away in my reviews because I think everyone should have a chance to experience a book for themselves without someone ruining it or tainting their own impressions of the story.  My mom is always asking what happens in a book or with a movie we are watching, and I always say “I don’t remember, read/watch it and see.”  She gets so mad at me, but I don’t mind.

I really think this is a book my high school students could get into.  I hope one day I can add it to my classroom library, but not sure when I can afford that.  This was my first time reading anything by Janice, so I will have to check out and see what else she has especially if there is more to this series.

I recommend this book to those people who want a unique werewolf world and don’t want everything happy and perfect.  Off to read a new adventure :)

***Received the ebook from the author for an honest review, but I bought it because I knew I had to have it especially for under a buck :)

The cover is really beautiful and magical looking :)  Really draws my attention to it :)

Skye is awesome at painting this picture that makes everything seem possible, and you feel like you are right there.  The creativity and story line in this book amazes me.  I wish I had even a tiny bit of the creativity authors have to come up with such awesome stories.  I think that this series is going to get better and better.  I even went and bought the short stories that I haven’t read yet to go with the copy I bought of this one :)  I eventually hope to get this book in paperback, so I can share with my awesome students :)

Okay Echo reminds me of a typical high school student trying to figure out who she is while also trying to fit in with her peers.  And she doesn’t have the confidence in herself and her abilities like a true high school student.  Trying to inspire confidence in my students is always one of the hardest things to accomplish, and it always breaks my heart when my kiddos don’t believe in themselves.

I’m still not sure what to think of Connor, and I really didn’t want the book to end where it did.  I want to know what happens.  It will be interesting to see if my imagination is taking me where the story is actually going :)

I recommend this story to all the dreamers out there especially if you believe in mind power.  Well, I’m off to read a new adventure :)

I HEART ROBOT Cover Art from Suzanne van Rooyen

I'm not the most artistically inclined. While I do love art and have been known to bust out the pencils and paints myself, it's not an area where I'd consider myself particularly talented. In short, I knew that cover design was something best left to the professional and I had every confidence in Month9Books.
I am so grateful to Georgia McBride for allowing me to have the amount of input I did when it came to cover creation for I Heart Robot. This is a novel that is as much about a civil rights struggle in a futuristic, post-war city as it is about romance, and we wanted a cover that reflected both elements. Finding the right balance between romance and science fiction was a tall order, but Month9Books delivered in spades by presenting me with two stylistically different covers. I loved elements of both, and by working closely with the cover artist and with Georgia we managed to combine all the best parts of both original covers into what we have today: a cover that reflects the gritty world my characters live in while emphasizing the fact that this is above all, a love story.

I Heart Robot
Sixteen-year-old Tyri wants to be a musician and wants to be with someone who won't belittle her musical aspirations.
Q-I-99 aka 'Quinn' lives in a scrap metal sanctuary with other rogue droids. While some use violence to make their voices heard, demanding equal rights for AI enhanced robots, Quinn just wants a moment on stage with his violin to show the humans that androids like him have more to offer than their processing power.
Tyri and Quinn's worlds collide when they're accepted by the Baldur Junior Philharmonic Orchestra. As the rift between robots and humans deepens, Tyri and Quinn's love of music brings them closer together, making Tyri question where her loyalties lie and Quinn question his place in the world. With the city on the brink of civil war, Tyri and Quinn make a shocking discovery that turns their world inside out. Will their passion for music be enough to hold them together while everything else crumbles down around them, or will the truth of who they are tear them apart?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!

***Received the book as part of the book tour for an honest review

The cover is okay, but I don’t know that it would attract me to pick it up if I spied it in a bookstore.  It would be a mistake to not pick it up, but I would have preferred a dragon on the cover again :)

Of course I loved this book, my favorite characters were off adventuring again :)  I didn’t read the blurb before I started reading, so I had lots of surprises while I was reading.  I never like to give away what happens in a story, so I won’t ;)  But I will say that I went through many emotions while reading and things happened causing me to yell Nooooo inside my own head while reading.

Nicole’s writing style is wonderful to imagine everything happening and getting a great picture in your head.  I can’t wait to read more of this series and see what else Nicole thinks up in the future :)

I highly recommend this series to fans of Eragon and Lord of the Rings because those movies jump to mind a lot when I’m reading this series.  I want to add this book to my classroom to share with my high school students as well, but it will be a while before I can do that.

Hmmm what Month9Book to read next ;)

Fledgling
The Dragonriders Chronicles #1
by Nicole Conway

Goodreads blurb:  Can one boy stand between two kingdoms at war?

Jaevid Broadfeather has grown up as a wartime refugee, hiding from the world because of his mixed racial heritage. He feels his future is hopeless, until a chance encounter with a wild dragon lands him in Blybrig Academy—a place usually forbidden to anyone but the rich and royal. But Jaevid’s case is special; no dragon has voluntarily chosen a rider in decades, so the proud riders of Blybrig must begrudgingly let him join their brotherhood despite his bloodline. Lieutenant Sile Derrick, a sternly tempered man with a mysterious past, becomes his instructor and immediately takes a peculiar interest in Jaevid’s future.

While struggling through the rigorous physical demands of training, things begin to go awry. Jaevid witnesses the king’s private guards kidnapping Sile in the dead of night. When none of the elder riders are willing to help him, Jaevid begins a dangerous adventure to save his instructor.

Everything Jaevid learned at the academy will now be put to the ultimate test.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***Received the book as part of a tour for Avian (book 2) for an honest review

The cover is awesome.  I love the dragon on the cover, and I think kids will be drawn to it because it reminds me of how dragons are depicted in video games like WoW.

Okay, I wasn’t sure what to expect in this book because Nicole Conway is an author I have never read before, but I know from the first time I saw the cover and read the blurb that I wanted to read it.  It definitely exceeded my expectations, and I loved reading it.  The book is like the movie Eragon meets Lord of the Rings kind of vibe…well at least to me. :)

I love Jae’s character because even though he is treated badly and abused by just about everyone he is so brave and loyal to the few people who are very worthwhile friends.  He is so tenacious and never gives up.  This is so hard to demonstrate to high school students.  I know in high school, there is always so much strife and mistreatment from student to student going on, and when one of my students is upset, I always ask them if the person is their friend.  When they tell me no way, I tell them then why care what they think?  Don’t let someone else ruin your day or your image of how you think and feel about yourself!  This was not something anyone ever told me in school, and I had to learn it much later in life.

Felix is another awesome character.  He will not stand for someone picking on or hurting one of his friends.  He comes from money but does not let that define who he is.  He lets his actions speak for him.

Of course, you can’t leave out the fierce dragons who are awesome all by themselves.  Mavrik sees something in Jae that no one else did, and they have an amazing partnership.  I try not to give specific details in my reviews because I would never want to spoil your adventure into reading this book :)

Nicole Conway does a fantastic job creating her world and describing it in a way that the images fill my head while reading.  I can’t wait to read Avian next.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading dragon books!  I especially think this will be a phenomenal addition to my classroom library when I can afford to buy this series.  I’m sad to say it, but my classroom library is severely lacking in content to attract high school boys into reading, and I think this book would help in this area.  My high school students get such a kick out of me sharing my books with them, and they are even more amazed when they see that an author has signed the book and that I still share it with them.  I will be reading this book again with my son in the future :)
