Review - Can't Bear to Hide by Lynn Red (Kendall Creek Bears #2)

Can’t Bear to Hide
Kendall Creek Bears #2
by Lynn Red

Goodreads blurb:  For a regular girl to be the sheriff of a town full of werebears, she needs spunk, grit, and the ability to deal with rowdy drunks eight times her size.

In the three years since Raine Matthews escaped an abusive relationship by clocking her husband with a baseball bat, she’s been through a lot – she ran, she hid, and she fell in love with Daxon Mark, alpha bear of Kendal Creek. She’s got spunk and grit to spare, but she’s also constantly reminded of a past she can’t undo.

Dax is one bad-boy alpha werebear who takes what he wants, and isn’t shy about bending rules, which has gotten him in trouble more times than he can count. Raine’s calmed him down though... a little. And he’s mellowed with age... a little. But when an old rival resurfaces and threatens not only his town, but his mate? Dax isn’t just angry, he’s mad enough to kill.

With Raine’s darkest shadow coming back to haunt her, and Daxon’s rival breathing down his neck can the love the two of them built survive the hell of their past?

Only one thing is for sure – when she can’t bear to run, and can’t bear to hide, Raine sure as hell ain’t going down without a fight.

About the Author:  Lynn doesn't love anything more than being wrapped up in a hammock with her corgi on her stomach and a pile of her favorite books to read. And by "pile of books" she means "a kindle."

She loves all sorts of romance, but especially ones that feature big, strong alphas who will stop at nothing to prove themselves to the women who melt their hearts.

The cover is awesome, but wasn’t that on the other side in the last book o_O!!!

This is the second book in the series and picks up on Raine and Daxon’s story about 3 years after book 1 ended.  Of course this is for adults only due to steamy content.  I recommend reading this series in order because it does reference back to things that happened in book 1.

Raine is fun, quirky, but not without her flaws.  She is real which I like because none of us are perfect :)  The story twisted and turned and had plenty of action to keep me entertained and enjoying the story :)

Lynn’s books are always unique to her.  She has her own style, and I always enjoy it.  She always has  quirky humorous characters and in this book there are plenty which made me laugh and enjoy the book adventure :)

I think any bear shifter lover will enjoy reading this series :)

Review @valerietejeda - Hollywood Witch Hunter by Valerie Tejeda

Hollywood
Witch Hunter
by Valerie Tejeda

Goodreads blurb:  From the moment she first learned the truth about witches…she knew she was born to fight them.

Now, at sixteen, Iris is the lone girl on the Witch Hunters Special Ops Team.

But when Iris meets a boy named Arlo, he might just be the key to preventing an evil uprising in Southern California.

Together they're ready to protect the human race at all costs. Because that's what witch hunters do.

Welcome to Hollywood.

About the Author:  Entertainment journalist Valerie Tejeda spends her days reporting on books, television, and more, for a variety of different publications, including but not limited to: The Huffington Post, Teen Vogue, She Knows, Latina, The Fix, Salon.com, Cosmopolitan, and spends her nights writing YA novels.

As a journalist, Valerie has conducted interviews with best-selling authors, including: Lois Lowry (The Giver), Veronica Roth (Divergent), James Dashner (The Maze Runner), Jennifer Armentrout (Lux Series), Sarah J. Maas (Throne of Glass), and more. The cover is pretty cool and what attracted me to the book initially, and it matches what Iris would look like :)

This is a YA book, and it is the first book by new author, Valerie Tejeda.  I think she did a great job creating a new and unique world that was definitely entertaining to explore.  While it doesn’t say this is a series, the ending suggests that there will be more to come (which I hope does happen because I want to know more!!!)

Iris, Knox, Dex, and Arlo are of course my favorite hunters.  Of course, Iris is spunky and full of life, but she gets her share of garbage from the other hunters because she is the first and only female hunter.  All sorts of action that keeps you fully engaged into the story, twists and turns, mysteries, and so much more.  When it starts you think lines of good and evil are firmly drawn, but are they?  You will have to read to see because I wouldn’t want to ruin your adventure in reading this book.

I can’t wait to see what Valerie magics up next ;)  I recommend this series to YA witch/hunter fans because you will be entertained.

Audiobook Review @mollyharperauth - I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas by Molly Harper (Half-Moon Hollow #2.7)

I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas
Half-Moon Hollow #2.7
by Molly Harper

Goodreads blurb:  It's Christmas in Half-Moon Hollow and newly turned vampire Iris Scanlon-Calix wants to make Gigi's first visit home from college as normal and special as possible. It's taken months for Iris to work up the nerve to spend time around her baby sister after her vampire transition, so she enlists help from Jane Jameson and Company to keep her blood-thirst under control and assure Gigi's safety.

Gigi, on the other hand, has problems of her own, including the demise of her relationship with high school sweetheart, Ben, and a looming job interview with Ophelia Lambert, the scariest potential employer in the Hollow. And then there's the small matter of the handsome, frustrating vampire who keeps appearing in Gigi's peripheral vision, then disappearing before she can talk to him.

Can the Scanlon sisters negotiate romantic problems, vampire politics, and Christmas cookie disasters and enjoy a relatively normal holiday?

About the Author:  My mother remembers an 8-year-old me setting up my “writing office” in our living room by putting her old manual typewriter on the couch next to a toy phone. And I (very slowly) pecked out the story of my third-grade class taking a trip around the world and losing a kid in each city.

I had a dark sense of humor, even then.

In high school, when other girls my age were writing poems about dying unicorns and bleeding roses, I was writing essays about having political arguments with my dad at the dinner table. (Whoever made the other person laugh at their own political party won the argument.) I knew I wanted to write when I grew up, but I also knew there was very little chance I could make a living writing books, so I went for the next best thing – newspaper writing.

I majored in print journalism at Western Kentucky University and used my shiny new degree to get a job at my hometown newspaper. I married my high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. And for six years, I wrote about school board meetings, quilt shows, a man “losing” the fully grown bear he kept as a pet in his basement, and a guy who faked his death by shark attack in Florida and ended up tossing pies at a local pizzeria.

I loved my job at the paper. I loved meeting new people every day and never knowing where I would end up. But somehow, the ever-shifting schedules of a police officer and a reporter did not equal "family friendly." One of us needed to take a normal job for the sake of our young daughter. I took a secretarial position at a local church office, which left me with dependably free evenings for the first time in my adult life. David was working the night shift that summer and I was losing.my.mind. We were living in "The Apartment of Lost Souls" while building our new home. This was the place where appliances and small electronics went to die. Every night I would tuck our snoozing child into bed and wait for the washing machine to start smoking or the computer to suddenly flash the "blue screen of death." Then there was the plague of frogs in the bathroom that put our daughter of potty-training for about six months.

Normally, when things get tough, I can take solace in reading. But I surveyed my packing box of favorite books with the apathetic air of someone who stands in front of the open refrigerator for 10 minutes and can't find anything. Nothing sounded good. So I just sat down and started writing something I would want to read.

Being a huge fan of vampire movies and TV shows, I wondered, what would be the most humiliating way possible to be turned into a vampire- a story that a vampire would be embarrassed to share with their vampire buddies over a nice glass of Type O. Well, first, you'd have to make the protaganist a bit of an accidental loser. She's single, almost 30, and a librarian working in the small Kentucky town where she grew up. This "triple whammy of worry" has made her a permanent fixture on her Mama's prayer list. And despite the fact that's pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. She drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar and during the commute home, she's mistaken for a deer and then shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire.

And thus, Jane Jameson and the wacky denizens of Half-Moon Hollow were born.

It took me almost a year to complete and edit a draft of the book, which I planned as the first in a three-book series. I spent three months using agentquery.com to ruthlessly stalk potential literary agents. (There were a lot of lists involved, I don't want to re-live it.) I was gently rejected by at least half of them. I corresponded with some very nice, very patient people, but ultimately signed with the fabulous Stephany Evans of Fine Print Literary Management. Stephany was willing to take to the time to give me advice on how to imp.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!

I picked up this audiobook as a freebie.  This is a short story or novella length.  I listened to it while cutting the grass.  Both the narrator and the author did an awesome job.  I have always been curious about this series, but I hadn’t explored yet.  This was a great way to check out the author and the narrator.  I will definitely be checking out more of both of their works.

This is Gigi’s reunion with her sister for the first time after her sister becomes a vampire.  I really like Gigi and all of the characters I was introduced to.  I love the author’s style and humor that was mixed in with a great story.  I tried to see if the local used bookstore had some of the books, but unfortunately they didn’t.  So I will have to check out the prices and see what I can get where :)

I highly recommend reading or listening to this story to all the vampire lovers out there who love their vamps to have personality with lots of fun and humor mixed in :)

Review @Claire_Ryann - Return of the Pack by Claire Ryann (Sierra Moon #2)

Return of the Pack
Sierra Moon #2
by Claire Ryann

Goodreads blurb:  He's met his mate. What if she doesn't want the wolf?
Curvy, backpacker Tara learns that shifters are real the hard way-- by falling in love with one. But what does it really mean when he say she's his "mate?"

Are the bonds of Fate strong enough to hold them together when they're worlds are so far apart?

Lane knows that if the pack of misfit adoptee wolf-shifters is going to survive and re-establish the high Sierra territory, he'll need to find an alpha female. A natural alpha. A strong female who will be up to the task of becoming matriarch of the new pack.
When he meets Tara hiking through the mountains alone, he knows he's found his new mate. Now he just has to explain the whole were-wolf thing and hope she doesn't freak out.

Tara thought the incredibly sexy man with the piercing green eyes just might turn out to be more than a vacation hook-up. He seemed genuinely into her curvy figure and everything was going just fine until he revealed that he's really a werewolf--and he wants her to be his new mate and become the pack's alpha female.
Just her luck. She finally finds a great guy who's into her, and he turns out to be a werewolf!

Return of the Pack is Part Two in the Sierra Moon Series.

About the Author:  Inspired by the real lives and loves of the women that she's known personally, Claire prefers to create heroines for real life-- what we see in ourselves, what we see in others, and what we want to be.

A little too curvy? A little past our prime? A little too picky to settle for anything less than the real thing in the right package? Claire's heroines always meet their match-- and their mate--whether it's a ruggedly handsome adventurer, a seriously sexy alpha shifter, or just the new neighbor across the hall.

So whether you prefer your happy endings with a dose of reality or in the paws of a sexy shapeshifter, Claire probably has a story for you.

Most of Claire's books are in short story format because that's what she loves to read herself. Perfect for a bedtime story or a lunch break read.

***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review, but I just picked up my own copy

The cover is just awesome, but my favorite part is the stunning wolf with the green eyes!!  Love it!!!

This is a serial series, and this is the 2nd part.  It must be read in order to get the whole story.  I’m not sure how many parts this series has, but it is not complete yet.  So if you do not like cliffhangers, you might want to get it but wait on reading until you have all the parts.  This is an adult only series due to the steamy content :)

Lane is a sexy alpha, and I like him more and more because he isn’t selfish or too boorish.  Tara is irritating me, but I think it is her fear of the unknown, and I hope she will get it together because she isn’t measuring up like she did in part 1.  This part has plenty of action, a cat, and steamy scenes to keep your attention.  Of course, I still have plenty of kitty questions that I will have to wait and see because my mind is whirring right now :)

Claire’s writing is wonderful because you can see everything in your mind as you read.  She grabs your attention with an interesting story, and when it ends, you are yelling Nooooo!!! because it was so good and of course that pesky cliffhanger makes it worse…lol

I recommend this story to wolf shifter lovers who like serials too :)

Review - Little Red Riding Bears by Sable Sylvan (Bear-y Spicy Fairy Tales Book 2)

Little Red Riding Bears
Bear-y Spicy Fairy Tales #2
by Sable Sylvan

Goodreads blurb:  When Meredith “Red” Baxter’s grandmother’s rent goes up, fiery Red goes straight to the landlord to complain, but the last thing she expects to find? Three big bad grizzlies hibernating…and willing to strike a deal about the rent, if Red can sweeten the honeypot.

Meredith strikes a deal with the three werebear best friends: she'll be their live-in housekeeper and chef for the winter, but only if they agree to never raise her grandmother's rent again. Brandon, Scott, and Nathan soon find that the redhead might be the girl they’ve been looking for all their lives, their fated mate, but will she be able to accept their unorthodox lifestyle?

The Oregon nights are cold, but hibernating with the bears gets hot and heavy when all three bear shifters try to woo curvy Red together. The three best friends share the same mate mark: now, all they have to do is romance the petite but curvy girl. At the end of the day, will little Red start riding bears?

If you love sassy BBWs and bear shifters are what you live for, spicy ménages (à quatre!) are what you dream of, and fated mates are your obsession, check out "Little Red Riding Bears! This book is a standalone novella, part of the Spicy Bear-y Tales series of remixed fairy tales.

About the Author:  My name is Sable Sylvan, and the only thing I love more than reading hot paranormal romances is writing down my fantasies and sharing them with readers like you. My heroes are strong alpha male shifters who can be grizzly and gruff at times...but when it comes to their mates, they turn into absolute teddy bears. The curvy heroines in my stories can be sassy at times but the bear shifter men who love them will do anything for their fated mates.

"Goldilocks And The Three Bear Shifters" is the first book in my "Bear-y Spicy Fairy Tales" series, set in fictional Port Jameson, Oregon. Each standalone books features a BBW and her bear shifter ménage, a happy ending (no cliffhangers!) complete with an epilogue and a sexy teaser. The books can be read alone and in any order and are all based on popular fairy tales.

If you love fairy tale romances but aren't super into ménages, check out my modern fairy tale series, "The Shifter Princes", a series in which sexy shifter billionaires woo the women they love, each standalone book featuring a modern twist on a classic fairy tale. Expect these books out by August 2015!

The cover is perfect for the book :)

This is the second novella in the series.  They are completely standalone, so the order doesn’t matter.  This is definitely for adults only due to the very steamy content.

I really liked this book.  It had a story to go with all the steamy scenes.  Meredith is visiting her grandma, and she goes to give her grandma’s landlords a piece of her mind.  The boys are gruff sexy and sleep a lot.  I loved the interactions and the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale undertones.  Very entertaining and well written, and I can’t wait to see what Sable cooks up next :)

I recommend this book to bear shifter lovers who want a short feel good story with lots of steamy scenes.

Review - Can't Bear to Run by Lynn Red (Kendall Creek Bears #1)

Can’t Bear to Run
Kendall Creek Bears #1
by Lynn Red

Goodreads blurb:  Raine Matthews used to be quirky, fun and slightly goofy. She’s not allowed to be any of those things while she is firmly under her husband’s thumb. Her only reprieve comes from distant memories of a man she saw only once six years ago. In that instant, Raine knew there was something special about him. The memory of that twinkle in his eyes, of his careless smile, gives her a shot of hope at her darkest moments.

She knows the only way to survive is getting away from her husband, no matter what. And in the back of her mind, she can’t shake the feeling that somewhere, somehow, she’s going to see that mysterious stranger again.

Daxon Mark is the frustrated, irritated, sexy-as-hell alpha bear of the Kendal clan. Trapped between shuffling truces with other bear clans, and the meddling of an overbearing shifter council, he can’t shake the feeling that the woman he saw six years before is what he needs to stay sane. He's teetering on the edge and when a bear as big as Dax goes nuts? THAT ain’t something anybody wants.

With Raine on the lam and Dax trying to escape the confines of small town politics, the two of them finally meet again – in the most romantic of places – in the toilet line at a concert.

With a glance, he steals her heart, and with a word she sets a fire in his soul. But with trouble brewing back in Kendal Creek and Raine constantly looking over her shoulder, will these two fated mates find their peace? Or will fear, loss, and murder rip the pair apart before love is allowed to bloom?

About the Author:  Lynn doesn't love anything more than being wrapped up in a hammock with her corgi on her stomach and a pile of her favorite books to read. And by "pile of books" she means "a kindle."

She loves all sorts of romance, but especially ones that feature big, strong alphas who will stop at nothing to prove themselves to the women who melt their hearts.

The cover is very sexy with both of those beasts on the cover :)  Awesome!!!

This is the first book in a new bear shifter series.  I love the humor and quirkiness that Lynn always puts into her books.  She always entertains me when I read her stories, and this book is no exception :)

Daxon is an alpha bear who is just tired of drama, and he is unhappy.  Raine is lost, and she has been trapped for a while, and now she is trying to take her life back and what an adventure we get to tag along for.  There is action, drama, jerks, and a few questions or mysteries that are rolling around in my head.  I can’t wait to read book 2 to see what happens with Daxon and Raine :)

Review @terashanley - Silver Wolf Clan by Tera Shanley (Silver Wolf Clan #1)

Silver Wolf Clan
Silver Wolf Clan #1
by Tera Shanley

Goodreads blurb:  Loving him will be legendary...if she can survive it.

What happens when monsters turn out to be real? One summer night while camping in the woods, Morgan Carter finds out in a big way. A tall mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, risks his life to try and save her sister from the vicious wolf attacking their camp. When he’s bitten and disappears into the night, Morgan can only assume the worst.

Greyson shows up a year later, and he’s a different animal altogether. His eye color shifts constantly and the rumble in his throat sounds more animal than human. She hasn’t any idea where he’s been all this time, but a good guess as to what he’s become.

Grey is determined not to let the darkness of his new existence affect Morgan and the little girl in her care. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Morgan but knows he should stay away and let her live a normal life. That’s easier said than done, though. A new danger pulls him from the shadows to keep her safe, and he’s no wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Can she accept what lurks just below his surface? More importantly, can she survive him?

About the Author:  Born and raised in small town Texas, Tera Shanley grew up in books. Her cousin gifted her a signed copy of Beauty by Bill Wallace when she was young and that was it for her. So smitten was she with getting lost in a story, that while other eleven year olds her age were groaning at the accelerated reader program in school, she was racking up the points just for fun.

Balancing chronic book-wormyness is her devotion to the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, camping - her soul is happiest out of doors. And lucky for Tera, her family feels the same. She grew up a wild child helping her grandma ranch cattle, and has a hundred memories out in the wilderness which tend to influence her books.

When she's not eating chocolate, slinging rifles, or soaking up some sun, she's lost in a book, but these days it's more often one she's writing. From historic western romance, to paranormal romance, to apocalyptic (zombie) romance, the genre doesn't matter quite as much to her as the love story.

She currently lives with her husband and two young children, and is owned by two crazy mini-cujos.

The cover is beautiful!!!  I love her purple eyes :)

I bought this book back earlier in the year because I saw the cover and the blurb intrigued me :)  This is the first book in the series, and it is an adult series.

Greyson has been bitten and changed, and he is having a really bad year and not adjusting well.  Morgan has had a tough year too, but she is adjusting better.  The two of them have chemistry galore and she seems to tame the beast.  I love most of the pack save one and you will know who it is when you read it :)  I love this new world I’ve started to explore and the character personalities and interactions.  Tera does an awesome job making everything seem to come alive in my head as I read.  I love when it seems like the writing clicks with my brain.  I can’t wait to read the next book which of course I already bought.

I recommend this book to my wolf lovin’ friends because I know you will find this story very enjoyable.
