My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***Received the ebook from Michelle Fox & Fido Publishing

Okay, I read this book as part of the Fated Mates: The Alpha Shifter Boxed Set, and it is the first book.  I saw this book on its own when it was on sale for 99 cents, and now I realize I was an idiot for now buying it.  Awesome is all I can say!!

The cover is sexy and awesome :)  Love looking at it with that sexy smirking bad boy :)

This story has so much action with a murder mystery and sexy strangers.  Serena is a kick butt female detective who is always having to prove herself in the boys club.  I can totally relate to the challenges of proving yourself when I worked on computers, and men walked right by me to ask the guys I worked with for help, and they pointed to me and said I was the computer person that they only fixed radios.  It irked me but was amusing too because the guys were always laughing when the customer had to back track to me for help.  They never missed what had happened.  Serena is a strong and does her best always.  I love heroines like this!!

Brody is sexy and mysterious, but is he a killer??  Well I’m not telling you, you have to read to find out what happens.  It is action-packed :)  I read it straight through and loved it!!  This is not the typical shifter book that is romance first, I’d say the murder mystery cop stuff comes first.  My grandma will love this book, so I’m going to have to buy it for her.

I highly recommend this book to my shifter loving friends, but also to my friends who like murder mysteries :)  Fabulous, I’m going to have to look into more books by Adriana Hunter :)

99 Cent New Release & Review - Knight Assassin by Rima Jean @RimaJean

Knight Assassin
by Rima Jean

Goodreads blurb:  Seventeen-year-old Zayn has special powers she cannot control—powers that others fear and covet. Powers that cause the Templar Knights to burn Zayn’s mother at the stake for witchcraft. When a mysterious stranger tempts Zayn to become the first female member of the heretical Assassins, the chance to seek her revenge lures her in. She trains to harness her supernatural strength and agility, and then enters the King of Jerusalem's court in disguise with the assignment to assassinate Guy de Molay, her mother’s condemner. But once there, she discovers Earic Goodwin, the childhood friend who still holds her heart, among the knights—and his ocean-blue eyes don’t miss a thing. Will vengeance be worth the life of the one love she has left?

About the Author:  I write magical, researched, and sometimes dark historical fantasies. If you're looking for some sweet, cute YA, it ain't here. :)

I will read pretty much anything. I lose interest in books really quickly, which sucks, because I have a bookshelf full of half-read books. If I can't put a book down, I know it's got me.

Generally, though, I'd rather be writing. ;)

I also make digital art, including book covers. You can see my work HERE!!!

***Received the ebook from Entangled Publishing for an honest review

The cover is intriguing and attracts attention :)

My son saw the author’s website and immediately mentioned Assassin’s Creed which is a video game he knows, but I have no idea about it.  Not sure if this book is somehow related to that game, but I thought I should mention it just in case.

I should also mention that rape is a topic in this book.

This story is interesting and has some interesting dynamics.  I’m hoping that this is going to be a series because there are some references made at the end that have awesome possibilities.

Zayn is special though she doesn’t know why.  Zayn has a lot to overcome after her mother’s death.  I loved going on the journey with her and watching her figured out who she is because she kind of reminds me of my students.  They go along with anything their friends say until they figure out who they are and what they need.  Her connection with Earic who is supposed to be her enemy is just as mysterious as her powers.  He is someone who leaves an impression because of his kind heart, and he doesn’t share the same prejudices as his fellow knights.  I do not want to say anything more specific, but there is action galore, hunting, fighting, battles, and much more.  There are a lot of learning opportunities with regard to culture and religious differences from England to Syria.

I recommend this story to YA book lovers who enjoy assassin type intrigues with a little magic thrown in.  I hope this is a series because I think it will only get better as it goes.

Review - Cougar's Mate by Terry Spear @TerrySpear

Cougar’s Mate
by Terry Spear

Goodreads blurb:  Instinct told her to run…

Shannon Rafferty learns that hanging out with the bad boys could be a dangerous business, but hooking up with a cop is even worse. Now she’s on the run, trying to avoid being murdered by his cougar shifter brothers and uncle. If that isn’t bad enough, a deputy sheriff hunts her down while she’s running as a cougar and trying to survive in the Colorado wilderness. He vows to protect her no matter what she’s done. With three dead boyfriends to her name, she’s sure she will be the death of Chase Buchanan before either of them can prevent it. No matter how much she knows she has to run again, he soon holds her heart hostage. But will that be enough to keep them both alive?

Chase Buchanan—as wilderness cabin resort owner, former US Army Special Forces, and part time deputy of the small town of Yuma, Colorado that boasts a love of cougars—is tasked to track down a cougar reported to be hunting human prey. Chase soon learns she’s a shifter, not a full-time cougar, and she’s on the run. When he takes her in, he vows to protect her. After losing his wife and baby to the human kind of predator years earlier, he’s not letting Shannon’s hunters kill her, too. But how is he going to hold onto the wild-cat woman, who is unpredictable at every turn, without losing his heart to her, and then losing her as well?

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***Author gifted me a copy for an honest review

The cover is awesome and sexy :) It is what attracted me to the excerpt up on Wattpad & of course that it is Terry Spear.

I have read most of the Heart of the Wolf series by Terry and loved them all.  I have the ones I haven’t read yet sitting on my coffee table as well as the Jaguar shifter books too.  As always there is never enough time for reading :)

Okay I fell in love with this story from the moment I read Chapter 1 on Wattpad.  I had to find out if this was a book, so I left a comment asking :)  She told me it was a book and would be out soon.  I was so excited because I love shifter books & Terry Spear, so together ***insert a girly scream here, I was extremely happy!

In Terry’s books, you never have to wait to be sucked into the story.  She had me at the first chapter.  I read the book straight through with tiny breaks for necessities.

First impressions of Shannon, she is the type of girl who just wants to be loved but is always found by the wrong men.  I love that she is not a pushover because I don’t want to read a story about a fainting daisy that always need rescuing and won’t try to rescue herself.  I love my heroine’s strong and feisty and that is Shannon even when she is skittish.

Chase is a sexy man with a past that makes you cry.  It makes you want to save him :)  He would be a loner, but his friends won’t let him.  I love this!!  I love seeing people rally together and support each other when needed.  I wish it happened more in life especially with kids.

All of this makes me love the shifter town of Yuma, and I hope this is a series because I want to read more about all of the secondary characters who I have already started loving.

I highly recommend this book to my shifter loving friends & those who already love Terry Spear!!  Can’t wait to read more!!!

Review Opportunity for Audible Audiobooks by Terry Spear @TerrySpear

Terry Spear has an awesome opportunity to review audiobooks for her.  I have loved everything I have read by Terry Spear.

I have never listened to any audiobooks before, but I do have a few from the SYNC summer program that I downloaded which I will listen to, and it may be while I'm working on the house that I'm buying so I can get my book fix while working :)  I might have to request a couple of these :)

Review @FabulosityReads - Chasing the Star Garden by @MelanieKarsak Melanie Karsak

Chasing the Star Garden
The Airship Racing Chronicles #1
by Melanie Karsak

Goodreads blurb:  An opium-addicted beauty.
An infamous poet living in self-imposed exile.
An ancient treasure about to fall into the wrong hands.

Melanie Karsak's Chasing the Star Garden takes readers on a thrilling adventure from the gritty opium dens of gaslamp London to the gem-colored waters of the ancient world. Lily Stargazer, a loveable but reckless airship racer with a famous lover and shattered past, reluctantly plunges into a centuries-old mystery in a romantic adventure best described as Dan Brown meets Mary Shelley.

It all begins on one of the worst days of Lily’s life. She just lost the London leg of the 1823 Airship Grand Prix. To top it off, a harlequin fleeing from constables shoved a kaleidoscope down her pants, told her to fly to Venice, then threw himself from her airship tower. What’s a girl to do? For Lily, the answer is easy: drink absinthe and smoke opium.

Lily’s lover, Lord Byron, encourages her to make the trip to Venice. Lily soon finds herself at the heart of an ancient mystery which has her running from her past and chasing true love and the stars along the way.

*Due to steamy scenes and depictions of drug use, this novel is intended for mature readers.

About the Author:  Melanie Karsak grew up in rural northwestern Pennsylvania where there wasn't much to do but read books and go for hikes. Apparently, rambling around in the woods with a head full of fantasy worlds and characters will inspire you to become an author. Be warned. Melanie wrote her first novel, a gripping piece about a 1920s stage actress, when she was 12. A steampunk connoisseur, white elephant collector, and caffeine junkie, Melanie now lives in Florida with her husband and two children. She is an Instructor of English at Eastern Florida State College.

***Received ebook as part of a Fabulosity Reads Tour for an honest review.

The cover is steampunk beautiful :)  I totally love it!!  It looks so magical :)

First, this book is not a YA book as several people listed in Goodreads.  The rampant drug use, sex, fetishes, alcoholism, and more would make this new adult or just adult, take your pick.

I am sooo torn with this book because it is beautifully written and had some great moments, but I didn’t connect with completely with the characters.  I think my reason for the disconnect is all the drug use but not really sure.  I have never been that curious about drugs or known anyone with this sort of addiction, but it seemed very life like in the writing.

I am sort of new to the steampunk genre, so I’m not sure if the drug use part of this book is typical of the genre or just this book.  I love the idea of all the cool things made by tinkers and the airships.  It would be so cool to travel by airship (with a parachute just in case) and see the world as an eagle would see it.  I think I want to read book 2 to see if she conquers her drug use and if that helps me fall more in love with Lily as a character.  I feel bad for Lily because so many terrible things have happened to her, but I do not want to ruin anyone's journey into reading this book.

As this book sort of baffles me, I’m not sure who to recommend this book to except to say steampunkers should read the blurb and my review and decide for yourself :)
