Daughters of the Sea Series!

When the evil you fear is born from within, who will save us…from ourselves?
Sometimes our souls hear what our minds and hearts refuse to accept. It will whisper its continuous cadence until we're strong enough to glimpse the truth. But when the soul's whispers morph into screams, we're forced to gaze into the mirrors of time and see ourselves for who we really are.

Grappling with her newfound leadership position, Stasia begins to experience a recurring nightmare of murder, as well as curious reveries about a violet-eyed girl who can control the moon. When tragedy grips the Tydes and several important relics are stolen from the Sons of Daimon, Stasia’s Council leaves for the forgotten island of Atlantis. Unfortunately Atlantis harbors its own secrets, and they are all calling to Stasia. As her nightmares become worse and she begins to lose control of her mind, those around her must find a way to reach her…and fast.

Olivia Campbell is used to getting what she wants, when she wants it. But destiny never asked Olivia what she wanted. Being Chosen to be a Paladin at birth had not been something she wanted, and she definitely hadn’t wanted her charge to be Anastasia. Unfortunately their irritatingly persistent Atlantean guide, Sebastian, seems to know all about her and the secrets she’s been hiding. As she fights to protect Stasia from an unknown force, Olivia’s own courage and loyalty will be tested in ways she never imagined. Will she be able to tell Stasia the truth before it’s too late for them both.

I am a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity. I love all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky. I've been told I see the world through rose-colored glasses, but I prefer to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into something I can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).  When I'm not writing I'm making jewelry, painting, drinking sweet tea, watching the discovery channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with my amazing husband.

Review - The Island by Jen Minkman @JenMinkman (The Island #1)

The Island
The Island #1
by Jen Minkman

Goodreads blurb:  I walk toward the sea. The endless surface of the water extends to the horizon, whichever way I look.

Our world is small. We are on our own, and we only have ourselves to depend on. We rely on the Force deep within us, as taught to us by our forefathers.

If I were to walk westward from here, I would come across a barrier – the Wall. Behind it, there are Fools. At least, that’s what everyone says.

I have never seen one.

Leia lives on the Island, a world in which children leave their parents to take care of themselves when they are ten years old. Across this Island runs a wall that no one has ever crossed. The Fools living behind it are not amenable to reason – they believe in illusions. That’s what The Book says, the only thing left to the Eastern Islanders by their ancestors.

But when a strange man washes ashore and Leia meets a Fool face to face, her life will never be the same. Is what she and her friends believe about the Island really true?

Or is everyone in their world, in fact, a Fool?

About the Author:  Jen Minkman (1978) was born in Holland, in the town of Alphen aan den Rijn. When she was 19, she moved between The Hague, Salzburg (Austria), Brussels (Belgium) and Cambridge (UK) to complete her studies in intercultural communication. She is currently a teacher of English and Dutch at a secondary school in The Hague, Holland. She tries to read at least 100 books a year (and write a few, too!). She is a published author in her own country, and translates her own books from Dutch into English for self-publication.
In her spare time, she plays the piano, the guitar and the violin. For every novel she writes, she creates a soundtrack.

'I have always been drawn to writing. My first book was a sci-fi novel at the age of eight, which I painstakingly typed out on my dad's typewriter and illustrated myself. Nowadays, I stick to poetry, paranormal romance, chicklit and/or fantasy. In my home country, I am the first-ever published writer of paranormal romance, and I will gradually make my books also available in English (seeing I have to re-write and translate the books myself, this will take some time!).

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!!!

The cover is ominous looking, but that’s why you want in a dystopian series.  I look at it and think a shark is going to eat her….lol

I picked up this book for free.  This is a novella about  130 pages.  I liked this book, and see the possibilities for it getting better as a series.  This first book for me was a little slow and some part did bore me, but you have to these parts to understand the world.

It has references to Star Wars which I was a little slow on the uptake especially considering her name was Leia.  She is a very strong character, but also very naïve.  You really see her grow throughout the story. Parts of it reminds me of Lord of the Flies where kids rule.  This is the first time I’ve read a book by Jen Minkman, and I’m continuing on with the rest of the trilogy.  I will let you know how it goes :)

I think someone who enjoys Star Wars mixed with the Lord of the Flies will really enjoy reading this book.

Review @entangledpub - So I Married a Werewolf by Kristin Miller @KM_Miller (Seattle Wolf Pack #3)

So I Married a Werewolf
Seattle Wolf Pack #3
by Kristin Miller

Coming soon......July 28th, 2014

Goodreads blurb:  Carter Griffin, enforcing officer for the Seattle Wolf Pack, has a problem. He's been offered the promotion of his dreams…if he can find a wife to prove he's over his playboy ways. But Carter's already walked the matrimonial road and bought the stinkin' T-shirt. Besides, a werewolf only gets one fated mate. Been there, done that.

All werewolf dog trainer Faith Hamilton wants to do is earn enough green stuff to put her younger brother through college. Okay, okay, so she also totally wants Carter, her sexy next-door neighbor, to look at her as more than a friend. It's too bad size 12 and plain isn't his type. At all.

The two friends strike a deal to help one another out. They must face a variety of challenges from a psycho ex-girlfriend to a Yorkie with a shoe fetish...and that pesky problem of only having one-fated mate in a lifetime. Will a relationship ruin their friendship…or spark a love neither anticipated?

About the Author:  New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Kristin Miller writes sweet and sassy contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and paranormal romance of all varieties. Kristin has degrees in psychology, English, and education, and taught high school and middle school English before crossing over to a career in writing. She lives in Northern California with her alpha male husband and their two children. She loves chocolate way more than she should and the gym less. My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!

***Received the ebook from Entangled Publishing for an honest review

The cover is sexy, but does not scream shifter to me.

The book was awesome!!  I couldn’t put it down.  I read it straight through and way past my bed time.  I usually like tons action in the form of fighting or battles, but this book was different and very well written with drama & mystery that it had my attention and wouldn’t let go.

Faith has an interesting story and is the girl next door, both literally and figuratively.  She is not confident in herself when it comes to men, but she is strong and loving.  I love how she takes care of her brother.  She knows the meaning of hard work, and I really related to her.  She is also a blogger!!  YAY!!!

Carter has many issues including being a workaholic.  I definitely wanted to slap him a few times for being an idiot.  But he redeemed himself :)  I won’t say more than that though :)

This is my first time reading work by Kristin Miller.  I am definitely going to check out the other books in this series and other paranormal books she has written.  I love finding new authors to love :)

I highly recommend this series to my wolf pack friends because you will love this wolfy world Kristin creates.

Serial Review - Shifting Fates: Escape by @TheAubreyRose & @NadiaSimonenko (Urban Fantasy Shifter Romance #5)

Shifting Fates: Escape
Urban Fantasy Shifter Romance #5
by Aubrey Rose & Nadia Simonenko

Goodreads blurb:  Book Five of SHIFTING FATES: From New York Times bestselling author Aubrey Rose and Nadia Simonenko comes the stunning conclusion to an urban fantasy shifter romance that will thrill you like never before.

One last hope for both shifters and humans...

The rift between soldiers and shifters has never been more dangerous. Cage and Bindi must trust the very friends who once betrayed them or lose any chance of bringing their family back together again.

Bittersweet revenge and hidden secrets lead to a terrifying and unexpected end. Will the clash of two armies tear Bindi’s family apart for good? Who will stay trapped in this prison of a city, and who will finally escape?

*** Shifting Fates: Escape is the grand finale to a Shifter Romance Series that will pull at your heartstrings ***

Excerpt:

“Cage...”
“I need you, Bindi,” he says. “I need this. Please...”
“Yes,” I whisper, and then he rolls over on top of me, his hands supporting his weight against the cot. He kisses me again, seizing my lips, and a shock rolls through my system. I can sense the connection between us, hot and electric. I feel his need, and as he kisses me I begin to sense the same need growing inside of me. It was something I didn’t even know existed, but now that he’s so close to me, my own body is reacting without my command or permission.
“Cage,” I say, but it’s a moan instead.
He kisses me on the neck. His breath is warm, but the connection between us is warmer. It burns as it grows. The darkness belies the sensation running between us—I think that there should be visible light here, sparks that could light up the entire black tunnel.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!

I was given a copy of this ebook by one of the authors, but it came out and I bought it before I read it.  And I’m so glad that I did.

The cover is pretty, and I love the wolf in the background with the moon.

This is the conclusion of the serial series Shifting Fates.  You must read these in order.  I loved all the action and love :)  I believe in fighting for your family, so it made me really connect with all the characters.  I wanted to cry, fight, and laugh with them.  There is even a surprise or two and some shocks.  The whole crew is amazing in their fight for freedom.

This really is a fantastically written serial by two authors.  It amazes me that two people can write together so well you can’t tell who is writing what.

I’m a little sad my adventure is over, but I’m hoping maybe there will be more of this world in the future like how the world reacts when they find out or what happens next in the city.

I highly recommend this series to all my shifter friends.  This is a unique post-apocalyptic world with new twist on shifters.

The cover is steamy and quite literally you can see the steam from that kiss :) Wow!!

Okay I’ll start with the usually this is a serial series, and it must be read in order for you to understand what is going on.  This series started out with me liking it, but since book 2, I’ve loved it!!  It really is an awesome story.  For those of you who are leery of a serial, please don’t let it hold you back because the story is completely out, and you do not want to miss out on this fabulous and unique post-apocalyptic shifter world.

I really love all the characters in this world.  Even if you hate what they are doing, you still really connect with each and every one.  It is amazing that you get this with a collaboration of two author because you cannot tell that there is any disconnect between the two awesome authors.

I’m so excited to read the conclusion, but I’m also sad because my adventure will be ending soon.  I highly recommend this series to my friends who love shifters because you have to read this unique story and wonderful written series!!
